Greetings,

I'm a BMW noob considering purchase of a 1992 525i. Vehicle is an auto trans, has 90K, and is a one-owner vehicle with all records (I have not reviewed these) - it appears solid, but I will have it checked by my mechanic before offering to purchase.

I can see nothing wrong with it except a couple of paint scuffs which can be buffed out and the headliner is separating and drooping towards the rear.

My questions:

1. what should I look out for? (I looked for an FAQ but could not find one)

2. Color is Calypso Red with tan !cloth! interior. I was not aware that you could even get a cloth interior for these. How unusual is this?

3. anything else?

the car will become my primary commuter as I retire the truck to weekend use

all input is appreciated.

TIA

$6.5K

Hopefully my wife will be able to get it to the mechanic tomorrow. I think if he says OK I'm pulling the trigger. BTW, it's A-spec but purchased in Germany.

Also , take a look at the instrument cluster. The lights often burn out / have poor contact. Easy and cheap to fix but pretty annonying. Also , the "pin" that you attach the parking lights to are often "worn out" making it impossible to refit it if you take it out. Have it checked and get a new pair. costed me $15

At last: Take it for a long ride , and be prepared to have some good times ahead of you , its a hell of a nice car to drive. I sure love mine! ('92 525iA M50 - with CLOTH interior :) ) And however how much you pay - i paid $15.000 for mine a year ago... (Oh, how i love norway..)

Well, I did buy the car. Final price was $5000 because it needs about $1500 worth of work - most expensive thing is tranny seals. I took it straight to the shop; I should have it back in a few days. Initial mods will be alarm, tint, and HU.
