What is this part and where does it connect to? The car is a '95 M3 3.2 OBD1. I just finished a head gasket job and the car runs like crap. before dying on its own. This appears to be a vaccum hose, but it is a hard plastic line. I didn't see anywhere to connect it, but I'm obviously missing something.

Thanks in advance for any help.

check the hose on the back of the manifold to the fpr.

i think that is an obd2 hose. i saw one that looked like it on a s52 manifold i was moving around last night in the garage.

Wild guess: crankcase vent? I'm not familiar with the 95, as mine is an OBDII 99 model.

I did spend last weekend pulling my head off and didn't see anything like that. Any vacuum line that would cause the car to stall has got to be connected to the throttle body or the intake manifold. Assuming this is the case, you need to trace all the connections at those places, its leaking somewhere.

Is your valve cover tight? A loose/leaky valve cover will make it idle like crap.

It's obviously too late for this, but label this stuff when you take it apart and take pictures. When I did my M50 manifold it must have taken me 2 hours to track down that last vacuum connection. :confused

Hopefully someone familiar with '95s will know what that is.

Stupid question: are you sure it came off the car?

I'm with weaksauce on this one. Looks like FPR vacuum hose. On my 95 it was rubber hose and not plastic.

I am in Grove City. I did check what I thought were all the vaccum hoses. The fuel pressure regulator hose is connected so its not that one. The crankcase vent is connected also. I did label everything that I could during disassembly. The problem was as I was taking the intake apart, I noticed it just laying there in the mess of hoses and cables under the throttlebody/intake manifold. I labeled it "mystery hose" :).

As for the valve cover, one of the holes in the head that the studs for the valve cover thread into is stripped out. It has been that way for a long time before the head gasket replacement and I haven't noticed any issues from it, not that its not the problem though.

The charcoal canister is connected. That wasn't disconnected at all.

Thanks for all the input. I'll check on the later year cars and see if I see it in one of the OBDII diagrams. Didn't think to look at that for some reason.

I don't recall ever seeing that plastic hose on a 96-99'.

Perhaps a previous mechanic left it in there as a gift.

On the OBDII cars, the valve cover bolts all have rubber washers. When I installed my ARP studs, I left one of these off and it idled like crap. If I disconnected the crankcase vent and plugged the line to the intake and it idled fine. I don't know if the OBDI cars are the same. It's easy enough to test.

I'm thinking it must be an S52/OBDII unique part -- don't remember anything like that doing the HG on my S50.

When das and Brent don't know the answer I would start to worry. lol

Well, I looked through some parts diagrams for both my car and a '98 and can't fine anything that looks like it matches. Gonna get the car towed to my mechanic that normally helps me when I get stumped with this car. Thanks for all the input. I appreciate it. I'll post back when we find out what the problem is or where that part belongs. I am leaning toward the comment that someone left me a present just to see how long it confuses me.

Vent hose 1 11151740393
from the ccv to the dipstick tube?

Hose elbow 1 11/1996 13901703184
from the solenoid valve to the throttle body off of the charcoal canaster

Hose ASC+T 1 11151703714
from the top of the asc throtle body to the throttle body ( i think, it's been a while)

just a few to look at.

Well, the car is fixed. The connector that plugs into the underside of the intake manifold, from the idle control valve, wasn't in all the way. Vaccum leak solved. The plastic hose I found in my engine bay is till a mystery, but I don't think it goes to my car.
