My new car seems to idle up and down when I start it. It isn't like a normal cold high idle. More like revs up and down about 1500 rpm for a minute or so after it's sat for a while. Any ideas?

I have seen this reported many times, some have gotten it to go away with a full car reprogram. Have you had any roughness or just a higher than normal idle?

You know now that you mention it, it does idle rough every now and again.

You may also have a fuel regulator problem which is also a known issue but BMW will not fix unless you tell them you have a rough intermittent cold idle issue

Definitely take it back to them.

I am having exact same issue with my new 535i....so will be interested in this thread. If anyone has had this issue and was able to get it acknowledged and fixed by dealer please share! :)

is it reving up or is it a rough idle when cold? Or both?

It's hard to describe. RPM's jump up & down. They range between 500-800 rpm flux. It only lasts 15 seconds then calms down. Mostly occurs on colder (but not cold) starts. Like if engine has been off for 30-60 minutes. Idol is not rough.

that one is interesting, If you have any other issues to be seen for such as pulling to the right or some of the other known issues, have service check it out. Since these cars have about a year on them, the service departments are learning what to do to fix them, provided your service department cares..

Mine does the same thing - hunts for a few seconds and then settles in. Dealer says normal, I'm not concerned about it, even though it really isn't normal and we both know it.
