Just wanted to let anyone who might have to do these repairs not to worry about it and just do it. I was worried but the forum put my mind at ease. After the stealer told me the quote of about $1200. for these repairs I did some research and found out how simple the repairs realley are. I had the bumper off, new auxiliary fan bolted on and bumper back on in right at an hour. The T stat was also about a 30 minute job. Its unbelievable how much the dealer wanted for such easy repairs. I bought my parts off AutohausAZ for $300. Thats a savings of $900.:eek: Thanks for those who helped and to E38.ORG too!!

Great job, yeah just replaced my aux fan too cause the other was seized and taking the bumper off isn't too hard. Dealer quote for that was $800, got mine at AutohausAZ too...
I also have to do my t-stat as well because it seems to be throwing a code. Was yours?
Just bought one from Bavauto which is a Behr and also a couple gallons of BMW coolant too for a flush.

Dealer said there was a code saying the T stat was stuck open... I bought the stat from AHAZ for $78. ( dealer wanted $105.) A quick tip for you is to use a 1/4" drive ratchet/ socket set. Its much easier than with a 3/8". Also, romove the bolt that holds the clamp which keeps the oil dipstick tube in place. This way the oil dipstick tube can be moved forward and you can slip a 1/4" extention behind it in order to get to the inside, lower 10mm bolt.
Edwin, theres no need for my pics on the bumper r&r when we have your excellent write up!! Thanks for that!!
