View Full Version : Car starts different after flashing EU2 tune.
Just flashed the EU2 tune to my 03' 325Xi yesterday. Now it seems like the car doesnt crank as quick when you go to start it.. Has anyone else experienced this? :confused

Dunno, have you removed cats and SAP? Low quality premium fuel? Could be alot of things, really.
Have yet to remove them. The fuel is good. It is strange because it was fine right before the flash. Now it just seems to be different. My battery has 12.48 volt when the car is off and 13.86 when the car is running. Could it just be something resulting from restinh the adaptations?

Hello to all
I did the Euro 2 flash on my 2000 328ci and i notice that it starts up nice and fast and indeed a noticeable difference from the stock flash. I know my car very well and realize in an instant when something is different. I have also noticed with the Euro 2 flash is that the upon initial startup and warmup period it emits a nasty smell. Its like when you remove the cats on a car, you can notice a strong smell from the exhaust gases. I have yet to drive the car, but those are the differences i have noticed in my case. Upon flashing i also went into INPA and reset adaptations just in case.

Mark

I went from US to EU3 on my E46 M3, and the car seems to start up quicker, but the revs don't jump as high. Before it'd jump up to something like 1500RPM and then work its way down to 900. Now it just goes straight to 900.

Not *too* surprising. The purpose of the SAP is to send more air to the cats so that the reactions can occur more efficiently. Since the SAP isn't used/used less with the European tunes, it makes sense for more of the exhaust gasses to make it through without being oxidized into their less offensive forms.
Think I might try the EU3 tonight just out of curiosity...

Yeah lemme know. Clearing adaptations was my first guess. You did that.
Ill keep you posted!

If you haven't already done so, you may want to consider disabling UIF writes until you figure out which DME version you like, simply so you don't use up all the entries.
I already had the UIF writes disabled as well as un-checking the fast baudrate per some of your other posts. I just flashed it to the EU3 software (7564450) now it seems to be fine! When I did the flash this time I had a charger hooked up to my battery. Maybe after I get back from Wisconsin this weekend I will play with it some more to see what happend with the EU2 flash. Next I want to look into flashing the ZHP trans software. I know a guy over on E46Fanatics has done it. You saw the thread TerraPhantm. Have you seen anything else on this?

Never tried it since I don't have access to an automatic E46. ZUSB would be 7557994 - not sure how well a transmission tune which expects a redline of 6800RPM would play with a DME that's still limited to 6500RPM
Good point! One way to find out I guess. Maybe Monday.

12.48 is LOW. I see goofy gremlins at low voltages like the trusty TFS...

Interesting. The 12.48 was with the car off about 35 min. after I got back from lunch. I was thinking about replacing the battery since it seems to be the original.

Guys,
Remember that when flashing to EU2 you MUST use DIS to set the Idle Mixture properly using an 02 sniffer or until it doesn't flog the car!!!

Hi newtoe46
Hmm, i did not know that I guess maybe that is why when i initially did the Euro 2 flash and started up the vehicle i noticed a strong, strange smell. I still need to take the car for a spin to see how it feels.

An update. It ended up being that my battery needed to be replaced.

I had not heard that! When I had the EU2 running everything seemed to be fine...

Out of curiosity... where is this coming from? I never heard of this before

It's a test plan within DIS. I just happened to stumble upon it once while messing around.
I went through without but DIS couldn't continue since my car was "catalytic prepared" EU3
I can provide a screenshot if you would like me to.

I would surely like to see a screenshot of what you mention.

Bump for screens and alternative methods to set mixture instead of DIS.
EDIT: EU2 flashed, reset adaptations, working flawlessly. No startup or idle problems... its almost too similar.
Where can I verify proper DME ZUSB that is currently installed. I see the number under assembly line in INPA, is this the only place I should see it?
Im curious about this as well. I flashed EU2 back and everything runs nice and smooth. To me it feels the same as the EU3 and way better than stock.

Sorry for the noob question but what programs are you using to do these flashes? I would like to do it on my 325i but right now I only have p.a soft

Hi, I have e39 with M54 engine, there is no EU3 variant available in realoem, maybe anymore? Only EU2 and EU4. I installed both, dumb data to files, edited and compared data. I can confirm that only difference is MIL light, SAP, cats and secondary lambdas are mandatory in EU4 and in EU2 DISA is not active in idle. I have read about EU2 that it has more torque, more stable idle, go to leaner etc. but I think that none of these is true. DISA can cause to that is go leaner, but in my test that has no effect! I end to install modified EU2 version, where I activated MIL and copy DISA map from EU4. Now all emission systems will work if they are installed, but I can remove any of them, clean adaptation and no MIL! I make also some minor tune adjustments to compensate ethanol gasoline poorer efficiency to prevent it to go lean adaptation (in E95 is 10% ethanol, so it will go 3% lean). I have think also to add more advance, change knock value 2->3 and maybe add injection time in full load to make it little bit more powerful.
