DON'T put down what car you're gonna put them on!

Maybe this would apply to other retailers I don't know, I do know I ran into this issue with Tirerack however.

If you're ordering non-stock tires from Tirerack.com, at a point they ask (on the web page) you what vehicle you're plan on using these for. If the tires are non-stock the order will be put on hold until you voice confirm (they called me) that you are sure you want to order these tires. There is no notice at the time of order that it will be put on hold, I only found out from my first voice mail.

Commentary:

For my part I ended up trading voice mails, tried to voice a complaint, was talked down to, and ultimately decided to cancel (much to the delight of the person I spoke to) my order when it turned into a big hassle. Not what I'm used to when ordering via the web.

I understand their reasoning behind this. However, and I suggested this, they could've easily had a confirmation box pop up (at time of order) when I listed the vehicle I was gonna put these on.

There was no notice of this via e-mail. If I had not been near my phone for an extended length of time and expected these to show up they never would have.

I ended going to Discount Tire. A little more money, a little more time, but better customer service.

Maybe this should be moved to the vendor comments area, not sure as it kinda fits in both.

I see your point...however, if they didn't do that there'd be someone complaining that they got the wrong tires for their car. This is gonna be rude and blunt, but quite frankly the majority of consumers suck...plain and simple. They place the blame on everyone but themselves, so if average Joe went onto their website, chose the size tire he wanted, didn't have the option to verify that was the correct size, got the tires, had them mounted up on the wheels and they were incorrect...guess who average Joe would blame? The place he bought the tires from because they are the "experts" and they should've known to ask what kind of car these tires are going on.

I see it almost daily, consumers don't want to accept responsibility, so the vendor is forced to take steps like you mentioned to cover themselves from being at fault.

Whats the big deal calling them back. I do it all the time and they call me within about an hour of ordering and I say ship it and it goes.

I covered this in my initial post.

It's not a big deal. However, because I didn't know they'd be calling, that we ended up trading voicemails and that I never actually ended getting my order "in" after I thought it was in, it ended up being a problem.

All my post was, was to advise anyone in a similar situation that not to list what vehicle they are gonna use to avoid this issue.
