View Full Version : Any diff btwn clay for paint & for glass?
I notice that Goriot sells a clay for windshields. Is there any substantive difference between it and a clay you'd use for paint?
Also how do the Goriot and Zaino glass polishes match up to Bon Ami for E28 and E34 windshields?

Auto glass is very hard so a more abrasive clay will not cause scratches the way it would on paint.

OK. Thank you. Do you know, specifically, if the paint cleaning clay sold by Goriot is in fact more abrasive? Or is it simply re-packaged paint cleaning clay?
I wonder if the old Bon Ami is just as effective (if not more) than the clays and polishes sold by Goriot & Zaino.

The Griots is mildly more aggressive than the paint clay... Basically the Griot glass clay would be compared to Megs HD clay and their paint clay would be compared to the Megs mild clay... Although you can use any clay on glass or wheels for that matter I would recommend that if you choose to do that you keep them separate and never use them on paint after being used on glass or wheels...

Save the clay you use on your paint (when it's too dirty for the paint) for the glass.

What I use for glass is the Hi-Tech Body Sponge™, its an aggressive clay that I wouldn't use on painted surfaces but you can clean it with soap / water
Thanks guys. I ended up using the Goriot's clay and there appeared to be a difference. Def. some dirt removed that wasn't removed by using the Wurth or Sprayaway window cleaners I'd tried. I also tried the Goriot cleaner. Not sure I like it any better than the Wurth.
Goriot advocates the speed shine as a lube for the clay but I just used water.
I also picked up a bottle of the Goriot window polish -- because I couldn't find the original Bon Ami that a few have recommended for BMW windshields. I'm slightly hesitant to use the Goriot polish, but may try it on a junker car to see how it does.
