so my fuel pump is shorting out someplace, i have no idea where.

my fuse blows every once and a while, not sure what causes it, but when it does start it does it alot,(took me 3 15A fuses to get 7 miles last night)

my fuel gauge doesnt work eather, this makes me think maybe it's just the pumps themselves maybe?

so these are my questions:

are obd1 and obd2 fuel pumps any different from each other?
(i have a tank out of a car we scraped and the pumps are still just sitting there)

are the fuel pumps regulated by then engine at all?
as in is there any logic signal sent to it from the computer demanding more gas or something that i wouldnt wana cut or something as such?
(my goal would be to just cut the wires and run my own straight to battery with a switch, as opposed to trying to figure out where the short is)

ADMIN please delete the other post it double posted and i cant seem to delete it

same pumps..and they aren't regulated by the computer.
u can always throw a bigger fuse in there then look for smoke to find ur short lol

Don't joke about that. Too many people don't understand electrical systems and will not understand why you are LOL. That is never a good idea and never funny.

A bad fuel pump can cause the fuse to blow.

You can buy a short detector. I used one a couple years ago with my 300 hurst and it worked OK, came within a foot of the where the short was. Or you can go thru the trouble of running 12V with fuse directly to each fuel pump (take out of car first) and see if it blows. If it doesn't , there's a short somewhere in the circuit. It just will take time finding it. Me - I would get new pumps and see if it works. Pumps only last on avg about 100K. If you go below empty all the time, I heard it burns out the pumps faster.
