I was washing the car today.
I sprayed on some McGuire's wheel cleaner on my wheels (I know the stuff is crap, but I had some in the garage that I wanted to use up)
It was extremely hot outside, and by the time I got to start rinsing the wheels, the wheel cleaner had 'baked' the brake dust into the rims (Schnitzer Type III FWIW)
My GF suggested that I try to use some Bar Keepers Friend (for cookware) powder to help remove the crap.
I tried Comet and AJAX powder and it didn't do anything. I didn't want to risk scratches using SOS pads or steel wool.
Long story short, if you take the time to do it, it makes wheels look like day one.

It's an abrasive. Yes it will take off the brake dust plus scratch the he'll out of the finish--- clear coat, non sealed aluminum. Short term fix long term Fuck Up.
