Ok so i put new akebono brakes on today.

Great i made sure i did everything right.

Only concern i have it that.

it seems that the brake pedal travels further then it should.

its doesn't go very far.

the brakes work fine
it stops the car.

if car is off the brakes are nice n stiff.

I didnt change the rotors,
so could it just be it needs to break in to the old rotors?
any suggestions be nice.

As per BMW recommendation, rotors & pads should be replaced at the same time for equal wear.

Brake pedal shouldn't be affected that much just by replacing rotors. I'd check your brake hoses and brake fluid level.

did you go with ceramics? They take a few hundred miles to bite properly.

They will improve as they bed in, a fluid change makes a big improvement if it has not been done for a while.

your brakes will often feel soft right after replacing the pads. It should get that bite back after the pad has permeated the rotor. Also should change brake fluid every 6 months.
