Hello,
Dropping in to ask a few questions about resale value of modded m5s. I spend most of my time over in audi territory, where modded b5 s4s don't sell at much of a premium over stock. Actually, their resale value is sometimes lower than stock.

what's the resale story with Dinan modded m5s, esp. 2000s (exhaust, chip, angel eyes, etc.) I searched the archives, but didn't find much. let's assume the car hasn't been tracked, but has been through some spirited driving.

and, if there's a buying guide handy, if you can point me towards that link, I'd be much appreciative.

best
Seth

I'd say regular book value plus about 50 cents to the mod dollar. Thats just my opinion as I have dropped lots of $$$'s.

The standard M5 engine mods (Chip, exhaust, HFM, intake) are not potentially destructive like the ones for the S4 (chip -> dead turbos; as a former b5 S4 owner, I know all about it), so there isn't really any perforation risk as far as the engine goes beyond regular wear and tear. However, mods like that really don't command much premium in the used market.

If the M5 you look at has a chip, exhaust, HFM and and intake, I'd only add ~$2000 over the price of a similar unmodded car. The only mods I'd pony up extra $$ for would be bl!ng wheels, a big brake kit or a coilover suspension. Cosmetic mods (spoilers, body kits, etc.) are worth $0.00 (since they generally take away from the looks of the car).

That's my $0.02.

Mods dont usually add value to a car... A clean stock unmodded car will bring more money and be appealing to a larger # of potential customers.
