so i just picked up a 4 door 325i for 2300, it has a 5 speed and an m52 motor swap, everythings ok except for a misfire at low (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1675729#) rpm, and under light throttle and feels like it has no power, it pulls a little and then just drops off after 4k comes back at 5k and then drops off again at 5.5?!??? this is my first bimmer and im wondering if theres a certain part im not aware of that could be causing this, besides the usual; spark plugs, coils, maf, etc etc..
Any help is greatly appreciated :D
Hmm Sounds like it could be the plugs to me.

Lol to be honest if it turns out to be that simple id shoot myself haha but i have a feeling its not guna be that simple. im guna throw some new plugs in tommarow, i cleaned the MAF earlier, still the same.

If it's a '92 with the original motor, it's the M50. The M50 is OBDI, the M52 is OBD II. Your car is OBD I, OBD II did not come about until the '96 model year production that started in Aug. or Sep of 1994 -- I believe Sep is the correct month.

He said it had a motor swap in the first line.

Could be a vacuum leak, check around as these cars are nutorious for shit going wrong when there are air leaks.
If it isnt that, then it may be fuel related issue as I have that at the moment too. I dont want to scare you, but when does this problem occur? Usually? Randomly? Upon start up? Speeds? Some more info >.>

Sorry, I missed that.

Even after doing a plug swap, reset the adaptations. Mine misfired on new plugs. One quick INPA session and it's as smooth as silk.

I had a similar issue, chipped the dme and runs smooth as now.

Thanks to you all for the response, this morning i cleaned the MAF, and swapped plugs, no joy:/ and to ihaveane36 it happens all the time, in every gear, between 20-30 percent throttle, kinda making me feel like it may be a problem with the tps?? like i said it was a swap to an m52 so i dont know what they did or how they did it. i do know that the ecu has been flash to remove the immobilizer and the secondary o2 sensors... the fuel filter looks brand new so im not sure where to go from here besides starting to throw parts at it lol
also ive noticed that if i hold it at the misfire point for a couple seconds, ill let off and go to rev the car, and it will backfire into the intake manifold it sounds like...

Mate, search for a post I did called BMW and INPA success. Best £10 tool in my toolbox. No TPS on an M52.

I found it on e46fanatics, is that writeup compatable with my e36? and also where do i get the bmw to obd2 adapter?
oh yea and i was just looking at the motor, and then i noticed it has an m50 manifold!! and it has a k&n short ram intake, could it be from all the extra airflow?? you think it would adjust...

It'll do the DME for sure because it's an M52 and that's what I have tested and working.
Because your car is a 1992, you will not be able to talk to the KOMBI, HVAC, ABS etc. You'll want a proper ADS adaptor for that.

The BMW 16 to 20 pin adaptor is on eBay. I think there are links in the guide, if not, search BMW 20 (ODB, OBD2, OBDII) and sort by lowest price.

gracias, but could that extra air from the mani and the intake maybe be causing the problem?? has anyone else had a problem like this?
:eyecrazy Holy smokes, you guys are killing me with the acronyms! Time to post a sticky on the meanings of the various acronyms (DME, INPA, KOMBI, etc., etc.???)!!!

thats not a half bad idea lol
hey so check this out, just got back from seein transformers it was friggin sweet lol :p anyway, i took the bimmer, and still, it was running like crap, so i get there, park, watch the movie, come out start the car, and it has a dead miss :o my initial response is WTF. but then i realize i can find out which cylinder is missing now... yay.
so i use the old unplug the coils one by one to see which one doesn't cause a change, and tada! cylinder 6 had no change, so i swap coil #6 with 5, start it up to check if its the coil,,, now the car runs great?!! it still misses a little but not nearly as bad as when i first got the car, but one thing i did notice, there was water around the boot of the coil pack, maybe even in the plug, the motor has no coil cover -_- so tomarrow i will unplug everything, clean it all, lube it up with some dielectric grease, cross my finger and throw it back together :)) ill let you know how it works out

Water in there could be a leaking washer jet.

These cars don't have that many acronyms at all! I work for Boeing on the 787. I have an acronym key book just for the 787 that is 153 pages! 153 FRICKEN PAGES OF ACRONYMS!! This place is enough to make a person drink....MORE!

i never wouldve thought of that lol but i never use them?? i think theres a crack in my intake grate by the windsheild...
ok still working on the car, but i have narrowed it down to cylinder 6, it is not the ignition coil because ive switched them around, and it only misfires sometimes, it is not a dead miss, so what could be causing this?? a short somewhere? faulty injector?? crank angle sensor?? bad luck??
