PROBLEM SOLVED
Turned out that the crank pulley teeth was rubbing the main belt tensioner bracket because my belt is too small. the tensioner was at max loose and i couldnt slip a new belt on. i found some slack by removing the notch on the alternator idle pulley so it doesnt push on the belt as much. No more noise.

my car started making this metal tinking sound in the front of the car today... it does it more when the car is warmed up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beH7VcQAsoI

the loud chatter is my LTW flywheel + warmed up 6 speed gearbox. its the tinking sound that concerns me when i clutch out and move the car. dont let the video fool you, the metal tinking sounds are really loud. you could hear it over my engine if i drive by. the noise is there in all situations... idling(only when engine is really hot), moving, in or out of gear. if i blip the throttle hard(5K rpm) at idle, the sound would occur a little(two "tinks" maybe) when the engine is hot. it doesnt increase with rpm, but i think engine load does increase it. i think it increased with rougher roads(vibrations and bumps) the engine feels normal(power-wise). i haven't tried to see if it makes the noise if i drive and cut the engine and let it coast...

when i drove the car in the daytime(90 degrees), and the oil temps were high, the car was making a lot of this sound. its just a constant random tinking until the car stops moving. it would tink a little bit at idle at a stop. once i clutched out in first to move, i can hear a screetching metal grinding sound and then the random tinking begins.

at night when it was cooler, it didnt tink at idle. it did tink as i drove the car from a stop, but no screetching metal grinding sound this time.

to me, it kinda sounds like a bouncing rock is stuck between the inside of a ventilated rotor and the metal dust cover. i already checked and didnt find anything there, jus giving you a description of what im hearing. i am leaning towards worn/bad motor/tranny mounts causing something to vibrate or rub metal to metal...

im really hoping this sounds familiar to someone... thanks.

Hey I know this is an old post, but what was that sound end up being? did you ever figured it out? Mine make this sound when I engage/disengage the clutch.

Hi,

No i still havent figured this sound out. i added brake ducting to the car right before the car started doing this. so i am gonna take it all out and see what happens.

I have changed the throwout bearing, fork, and clutch...

I notice it gets noisy when the car is warmed up. not so much when its cold. Do you also experience this as well?

Heres another video, its making the noise when i engage the clutch. It even makes the noise when cruising on the highway in gear, not during shifts. i can hear random tinking sounds.

I have the exact sound, however it only happen during gear changes...to be exact it happens when I disengage the clutch (between gear change). I have F1 16lbs chromo flywheel, stock clutch, and everything in bell housing is new. It does amplified it more when it's hot, though it has gotten better as I put about 300miles on it, the sounds still there but not as loud as yours anymore. Keep me posted

My problem started after 30K miles on the AA clutch/flywheel setup.

I have a euro 6 speed which might be why mine sounds louder.

I replaced the throwout bearing, pivot pin, slave cylinder, fork, fork spring clip. I did notice some wear on my throwout bearing guide tube so i sanded and polished it. i would've replaced it but the tube for the 6 speed is about $300 for some reason.

It sounds like something metal is hitting the guide tube. Like taking a wrench and tapping on it but i cant see how thats possible.

The car drives fine and i wouldnt know anything is wrong if it wasnt for the loud tinking noises.

I'm trying to avoid having to drop the tranny again...but my tinking sound exactly like yours and it happens when i'm half engaging my clutch pedal, even in neutral, mine is the sound goes proportional to engine speed, like the flywheel is catching on something...fortunately mine is not as loud anymore...Originally I thought it's the starter now fully retracts so it's catching on the flywheel...but now I'm confuse...just can't think of what that is making that noise...Is it possible that the throw-out bearing is kinda rubbing on the pressure plate ribs? I guess it can make that sound if the pressure plate ribs are rubbing on the throw-out bearings? I don't know....I don't intent to drop my tranny to resolve this issue...as i'm driving the piss out of it...everything is working just fine...

I'll let you know if i find a solution. Please do the same if you find out what it is.

The only logical step for me left is to replace the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate.

Thanks,

I sure will if i discover anything, but to confirm, my car does have the same symtom as yours, as it's hot out today and I verified it...You're driving it for over a year now...and still nothing wrong?
