Yeah, you can order the base model Cooper with a CVT (automatic) transmission. The thing about the CVT is that it constantly changes the gear ratios so as to keep the engine in an optimal RPM range. The Cooper S is only available in a 6 speed manual.

Yes, a MINI Cooper w/ the CVT transmission. Unfortunately, it is not available on the MCS.

yes, like stated before you can get an auto mini cooper, just not an S. it really isnt that bad, i was suprised at how well it does. just be careful because we've had the transmission get locked into gear 2 times and had to have it towed to the mini dealer to get fixed. the dealer hasnt had any other car but ours to do that so i think its just a defect and they gave us a new tranny for it :buttrock
other than that we havent had ANY problems with it. it comes with a "triptronic" type gear shift also if you feel the need to actually use a "manual" feel. i find it pretty useless though cuz the car does a great job of using the rpms to slow you down and shifts at the right points for the most part. really happy with it. just wish it was an S :az:
