e36 transmission?

will a manual transmission from a e36 fit an e34? theres a guy parting a 92 325 near me with a 5 speed, and i need a transmission...

Yes but IIRC, you will need the flange from the e34 to mate to the e34 drive shaft which is specific to the type of trans (Getrag or Zf) as well as the shifter mechanism. So get the trans and shifter from the e36 and source out the correct DS and flange. 92 e36 should also have the ZF trans as would a 92 e34. Remember you will also need a diff. The 4.10 will make 1st gear useless but fun :) Grab the rear trans cross member from the e36 as well (verify through realoem that it will work.) The e36 cars don't use the front u-shaped one... although you really don't need it.

My frankenstein was grabbing the e36 trans and the front driveshaft from the same e36. The e34 driveshaft for the 5 speed 525i was a little short and it did not mate up to the e36 transmission output shaft so the two driveshafts became one. Welded the e36 flange and missing section to the e34 driveshaft and had it balanced. An e36 guibo was used.

The e34 manual shift console was too short for this trans so I lengthened it as well.

Sourced a 3.23 diff and the car runs fine. A 2.93 might work better though.

im still around unless the car sells, i'm kind of getting sick of fixing it, no time with my new job, i've been working 50-70 hrs a week lately, 1 day off in 3 weeks. i found a auto for 350 locally, but it seams like a waste of energy.

so what about pedals and stuff, that specific to the 525 or will any 5 series parts work?
so how will i know which driveshaft i need? just find the e34 that had that specific trans and get that?

so yea im likely gonna do this, the guy said he'll take 50 for the tranny if i pull it...figured i'd give him a low offer since i gotta work for it haha
