Will putting bypass valves right before the cats be too loud? I ran the car once with nothing but headers on, and that was too loud, but I don't know how much the downpipes muffle the noise.

The downpipes don't muffle much at all... I fired my car up with just the downpipes and it sounded like a Chevelle with dumps.

Hm. Suppose I put some aftermarket resonators in before the cats (and cutouts)?

That would probably make it tolerable. Was going to ask why go through the trouble but it sounds like you're getting rid of the b30 exhaust huh?

Well, it's a lot less work to just redo the downpipes than the entire catback. Plus, I like the near-silence of the current setup, 90% of the time. Even my mom, with a particular dislike of engine noises, was impressed.

Yea it would be unbelievably loud haha. Every after the cats it was much louder than I could handle. I would put the bypass valve after the resonators.

Yes, right after the resonators would be perfect, not too loud but noticable when you want it to be

Trouble is that the cats and resonators have the B30's skinny pipes. I'd rather not replace all that.

Maybe two of these:

replacing the sections of pipe here:

with a cutout right after (right before the cat)?

If junkyards didn't violently tear out the cats from parts cars, I'd just buy a stock B40 system and put cutouts somewhere there, but they don't.

Any suggestions? I've never worked with exhausts before.
