After being here for 3 years I thought i'd make a thread about my car. :D

The only things left to do now would probably be coilover suspension (2012) and a full respray at some point.
Ok, now that that's out of the way here's how it all started.
Bought the car from a chap in London in 2008 at 60K miles who's wife drove it on a daily basis. A fairly clean example of a Sport model with good history.
Here's how she looked then:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj42/AkumaFes/CSC_0592.jpg
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj42/AkumaFes/CSC_0593.jpg
Then the inevitable happened. Visual tweaks (i'm not into engine mods yet):
Clear indicator bulbs:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj42/AkumaFes/CSC_0603.jpg
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj42/AkumaFes/CSC_0604.jpg
Upgraded the angel eye bulbs from Halogen Yellow to LED White/Blue to match the HID's:
Before:

After:

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj42/AkumaFes/CSC_0628.jpg
They're barely visible during the day but at night the look great (when they're supposed to be used anyway).
I was going to fit eyebrows but decided against:

Vorsteiner splitters and M5 replica mirrors:

Hamann Sideskirts:
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj42/AkumaFes/DSC_2393.jpg
These got a lot of criticism online when I first put them on but with a change of wheels and lowering springs they were recieved better. I like them, so who cares?

New M-Tech rear diffuser covered in Carbon Fibre by Andy:

Picked up some 19" Hamann HM2 wheels which although in good condition were in clear need of a refurb:

Almost completely lost the car at a roundabout in Winter 2009 so decided the following year that the Style 66's the car came with were to be used as winter wheels (ala M5). Cue a refurb in satin black (powdercoated to deal with wintry conditions) Plus, spaced them out, 15mm front 12mm rear:

Winter tyres were out of stock for a while so had to wait. Eventually they came into stock. Wrapped in Vredestein Wntrac Xtreme XL tyres. I also messed around with some time attack stripes. The car is so much more secure this time around compared to the 19's with Accellera's:

An unfortunate accident:
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj42/AkumaFes/E39_Sterling_Grey/28012011217.jpg
The guy who did it was civilised enough to leave his details and so a brand new wing/headlamp was fitted.
Further unfortunately... the garage doing the work managed to damage the Vorsteiner splitters and so, due to their unavailability... Exotics Tuning lip was ordered and the car ran without for a few weeks:

How's THAT for a thread? LOL! I'm very happy with direction the car's gone while i've had it. If I had my way it'd still be wearing the Vorsteiner splitters but you can't have everything.

Car looks great. I love the Hamann rims and most mods. Of course you already know that the side skirts look weird. And I am no fan of black rims on the E39. But everything else is really nice. Great pictures too.

I was right there with you until the eyebrows, then I puked on my keyboard and allmost ran from the room until i noticed there were more pictures, then I was like; Wheew, and i kept read and was like: oh sweet. So in the end its oh sweet.
+1 on the skirts, look a little off without the matching spoiler in the front, you might consider ditching those and your car would be perfecto!!!

Thanks. The skirts to me if not there, look "skirtless" :D. The Hamann rims are up in the air at the moment. I'm wanting a change so I don't know what to do there. Photographs have been getting better over the years. You can probably tell. :)

That's a nice way of putting it. I was totally gonna do it, but it didn't seem right so I sold them.

Hi Mate!
Car is looking great! welcome to the ExoticsTuning front lip and it does feel great to be just one of 3 UK examples doesn't it ;)
The other one I recently sold, is now fitted up on an M5 and just had a text from him to meet up at the Ace Cafe tonight, so should be good if we can park up side by side ! my reign of the only ET lip in the UK (as far as I know!) lasted a couple years - time to get more unique mods now then!
The splitters now are being made by an enthusiast in California, subtly different from directly copying the Vorsteiners, but still very similar so, always a possibility to have those and sell me the ET lip you have ;)
The rest of the car is looking much better as you've come along, I think I might have expressed a little not liking the sideskirts on their own when you first put them on as I feel they do/Did need more modifications to 'balance' out nicely - that's happend with the ET lip spoiler I think :) - that side profile pic looks great and all you need now is that Hamann rear sport undertray ;) trouble is that thing comes in at over a grand!
Any other plans for it ?! will you be attending any of the BMW summer shows this year? it'd be cool to catch up in person!
Cheers, Dennis!

Yeah Dennis, i'll probably be at Trax this year and the Pod. I like the car now. It's at the point where I'm thinking it's "done" minus a few little bits.

Thanks, I got them through an authorised supplier. Locally (in England) he's Teddy at http://www.ssdd-motorsport.com/
If you send them an email they may be able to direct you to someone local to you. :)

good taste and nice mods!! looking at the pics, I agree with you it looked better with the splitters... you do know there is a guy on m5board making exact replicas of the vorsteiner splitters ??? I was all for the exotiks tuning lip until I ran across him... now its a matter of time until I get the carbon splitters :)
btw, what camera are you using??

great looking car. the new lip actually helps w/ the overall visual balance of the side skirts vs just the splitters. but the back is alittle off now considering, in terms of balance.

that seems to be a problem with most "modded" E39s in my opinion, and it frustrates me that the only "solution" for the rear M-tech bumper is the hamman add-on... which is soooo pricey!

The skirts and the splitters. It just doesnt flow. The wheels dont flow either. Thats my opinion and Im sticking to it. I have seen hundreds of E39's here so I can safely say I know what stick on mods look like and how good they should look when paired properly.

Hi, the splitters I may pick up for backup use in the future knowing my luck. :rolleyes Shoot me a PM over as to who's making them please. :)
I applied for M5Board membership a while back but didn't hear back from them. Maybe it's because I drive a 525i! :rofl
Regarding the camera i'm just using an entry level Nikon D60. I have a few lenses, Sigma 30mm F1.4 Prime, Tamron 70-300 F3.5-6.3, Sigma 10-20mm Wide Angle F4-5.6 plus the trusty kit lens Nikon 18-55mm. It's a little hard to work with these days trying to get sharp pictures even on a tripod so i'm doing most stuff manually unless it can be helped. Need to get it serviced maybe. :)
Sorry mate, with all those stick on mods, it looks downgraded. it looked great stock imo.
As much as I respect your opinion, that's all it is, an opinion. I like the car the way it is. As great as a stock E39 Sport looks, in my opinion it's near perfect to how I want it now. Far from downgraded. You have an awesome car and I can happily say that all day long but if you're telling me it can't be aesthetically improved then it's you that's reached a plateau as far as modding your car is concerned visually. All of this said with the utmost repsect of course. :)

Thanks. I know what you mean. Problem with the back end is that i've never found a rear diffuser that I liked so I just had a new one covered with CF to match the front. If the Hamann one appealed to me i'd have had it as it would have been money well spent to complete the car's look.

I think they do flow so we'll just have to agree to disagree there. ;) There's no point my defending something I don't have to though. Point taken, you don't like it. :)
The wheels however were stumbled on by chance and I think they've suited the car VERY well. A nice clean design with decent dish. As you know we all frequent forums and have seen plenty of cars to make up our own minds as to what works and what doesn't right? It's just a difference of opinion that's all. :D
To think, this is my daily driver, what reactions will I get when I start on my widebody project E36 in a few years? :rofl

wide body ...yes please
That won't be for a few years yet. I have almost all the parts. Just need the car and a quad exhaust. That's all.
It will in part be a homage to great modders like Dado/Sibal and in other parts bring together the best elements of BMW's over the years. I'm saying nothing more. :)

I think the car looks great. I would put the original side skirts/lower rocker panels back on & also put in some blacked out front kidney grills. Those are the only two changes I would make. It's great to see another clean Sterling Gray E39 on the road... !

Thankyou. No tints for me i'm afraid. I had them on my old E36 coupe just before I sold it :( but didn't like the major light reduction at night. Plenty of people have said it but I like it just the way it is. :)

In the US maybe. Remember in the UK we also got the 520i too. A smiley at the end of your post would have come across a lot classier. :) We all know cars don't always stay in the same spec and my long term plans for this may introduce more power. Not that there's anything wrong with driving a 2.5 right? I still love the way it drives, I maintain it well. It's affordable to drive for me on a daily basis and I don't track it. ;)

Really nice car! I have a 02 525i in sterling grey also, mine doesn't look as sweet as yours do. I got it about 4 months ago and I am slowly getting through some simple mods and upgrade's noting on your scale though. Was the powder coating of the wheels expensive? I have been thinking of doing the exact same thing for winter with my stock 66's wheels when I upgrade to my dream wheels but I never thought of the black powder coat, excellent idea.
Have you any pics of the interior? always a bit nosey for other European M-sport interiors :) especially right hand drive's

I'll try and get some interior shots this weekend. Powdercoating was about £50 per wheel. It's a really durable finish and in winter just needs a quick wash down to get rid of any muck.

Hi,
Akuma - I've got wind of the 4th ET lip an owner has just last weekend ;) he's had it quite a while but says as he's so busy just not had time to fit it! met him at the Evolve M5 dyno Day and he was also telling me about the 20 sets of wheels in his garden as well! I might have to change my lip, ruddy thing is getting way too common now! ;)
Kevin Da clean 1 - when my Touring first arrived I hated the orange indicator headlamps and rear lenses. I quickly got a set of clear versions all round and felt better! my rear clusters went to Jo in LA and are on his widebody LSB Touring and the front headlamps I put up on ebay for a buy it now of £100 as they were very pitted from all the Police mileage they'd done. 20 minutes later, bought and to a guy in NYC! It's amazing how the UK taste of no orange indicators please in some states of the USA enthusiasts really want them! if you do spot a set here in the UK, and need them shipped over, drop me a PM if they won't ship abroad and I'll sort it for you.
Cheers, Dennis!

Hi Dennis. :) I think you still have exclusive rights on having the ET lip on an E39 Touring. :D Unless you know of a better one? I'll be at Pod in July so might meet you there.

It's all good man. Your call on the lights. More pictures of your car are needed too BTW. :)
I will make sure to do that. It will be a few weeks until I can get extra time to get her all cleaned up & washed. Then I'm having some window tint & window trim work done. After that she will be ready & I will make sure to post some...

Hi Akuma
Yep, I guess I still do hold that title of the only Touring with the ET lip spoiler on :)
I will be at Santa Pod so it'll be great to put a face to a name, hope you won't see your breakfast for the 2nd time around when you see my face!
I'm booked to visit all the 'big' shows, starting with DC11 tomorrow as well as a few other shows aside from just BMW's - are you popping down for BMW festival at Gaydon?
Cheers, Dennis.

I do tend to omit the magical emoticons where appropriate but it's not done maliciously. ;)
