I have a cpo 01 m5 that I bought on Dec 23rd.

It is FAILING CT emissions, due to a OBD2 communications error. Basically the CT emission computer thinks someone tampered with the obd2 control and is failing the car. Has this happened to anyone else?

yes, dealer is in ny and doesn't have ct testing equipment, nor do any of the CT dealer near me.

I would have the dealer verify that the car's computers are at factory spec.

Yeah, if its a computer communication thing then one of the computers is at fault -- either yours is thorwing some kind of bad code or the emmissions computer is malfunctioning. Did you try another inspection station? I guarantee you're not the only guy in connecticut with an '01 M5, so the computers must be able to talk to each other when both working properly.

So, the emmissions computer will not even issue the test, or it issues the test and the car fails?

tests and fails. it says obd2 communication error but the actual emission gas test fine. I will take it to another center but what a pain in the A$$. non of the dealer have a clue, all they say is the new CT system is "a fiasco"

I agree -- HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS -- Maybe call around to some centers and see if they have had a similar problem & if not ask if they've tested similar cars -- When did the CT system get updated?

Any mods done to the car? Software possibly?

If a car is CPO is it only warrantied by one dealer? I always thought a CPO car could be taken to any dealer -- if so take it to one in CT

any dealer. but the ct dealer have weeks wait for an appointment. There is nothing wrong with the car imho, it is just the dmv emissions computer being fubar'd

Had a similar problem when purchasing my car. Its a '00 and is still under warrenty, but the place i took it to couldnt get a good reading off it. Just went to my local DINAN place and they tested it just fine. probably just the equipment that local shops cant afford . hope it helps.
