I have an 07 335i Auto, and after reading the FAQ thread I found out that not all 07 Autos came with an OC. I did not realize that, so I went and checked.....and yep, no cooler.
I could easily have lines made and an aftermarket cooler installed, but I am not sure where to tap into....or what filter housing modifications (or new housing) is required to do that.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

dont mean to hijack, but if someone could add what caused the addition of the cooler from the factory? is it a package or just a standard option.

AR Designs makes a great oil cooler kit. Pretty easy installation.

From what research I have done, it was added because of the high engine oil temps, especially during spirited driving.....sometimes sending cars into limp mode.
I believe it was standard on 06+ 335 sport package manual trans cars
It was added on all sport package cars (speaking to the autos here) after roughly March 07
Turbos have a tendency to cause for high oil temps, it's just the nature of a turbo. An oil cooler on a turbo car is always a good idea.

Thanks for the info, but I am familiar with the AR OC. It is definitely nice, but I do not feel that it is anywhere near worth the price.
Can somebody guide me to the proper equipment to tap into the filter housing? That is the only thing I need to be able to do an oil cooler myself.
Thanks,

If your car has never gone into limp mode, I do not see a reason to spend money on this. Cars that have been reported to have gone into limp mode have either been driven very hard (not spirited, the latter is not equivalent to hard) on hot days, or while doing track duty. If neither is in your driving profile, no need to spend the extra bucks. Going into limp mode is not a catastrophic thing, it is a protection mechanism set to kick in way before it is dangerous for the engine, so you could just wait to see if you ever get it and chances are you won't. But in the end, it is your money, I am just giving you an opinion.

I understand, and I agree...to a point. It gets hot here, it was 100*+ on the dash today, and the car has gone 230+ more than once just driving to work.
You're right, I don't regularly beat on the car and I've never had issues with limp mode....That is why I'm not looking to spend $1400. If there were an option that I could have on the car for a good bit less, I'd go ahead and do it.
More of a "better safe" thing and exploring my options.
