I don't know who in their right mind would pay E90 M3 prices for a Cooper, but MINI is convinced there's 1,000 morons-- I mean customers out there to justify this partnership with Rolls Royce.

"How much are Rolls-Royce-caliber leather and woodwork worth if they’re in, say, a Mini Cooper?

About $67,000, if the Mini Cooper Inspired By Goodwood is any indication. That’s how much the Rolls-Royce-esque coupe costs under current exchange rates from its European price of 46,900 euros–just about the same as the Porsche Cayman R ($66,300) and Cayenne S Hybrid ($67,700).

The car is a limited-production model meant to combine the rally-car heritage of the Mini with the workmanship of Rolls-Royce. One thousand of them will be made in Mini’s Oxford plant (not, ironically, in Goodwood)."

Sadly, there are people that would buy them with no regret.

Not really a fair comparison either. Cars cost a lot more internationally than in the US when compared to the CPI. A 320d in Europe is way more expensive than a 335i in US if you do the currency conversion.

It's not the most illogical car, though. Plenty of people could use this: small and efficient car for one person (say a business person commuting to work), who want the good performance, MPG's, and environmental consciousness of a compact car, not to mention the great driving dynamics of a Mini... But with an extremely luxurious interior.

There's no reason why super-luxury has to be reserved for S-Class sized sedans, especially since 90% of the time there's only one person in them anyways!

In Manhattan alone they could sell all 1,000 (if they were well advertised).

Personally, I think it's a great idea.

Sure there may be people who like the idea of a comfortable MINI, but at the end of the day, it still looks like you are driving a $20,000 entry level car. Same reason why I think this new 200K Audi R8 is silly. Why spend a lot of money to look like you didn't spend a lot of money?

^^^Not everyone cares what other people think of them. Or whether or not their choice in vehicle, for the money, makes them look wealthy, or not.

Wow, it's a cute car, but not $67K worth of cuteness.
