i have searched this forum and the internet for a week or so with no avail.
few weeks after buying the car. (06 55k) light came on. had autozone pull the code. and he said cruise control error. cruise works great as does speedometer.
i live an hour from the dealerships and dont have a local trusted mechanic yet.(a little backwoods). i am not too cheap to take in but i am always on a tight schedule and like to research problems and go in with as much knowledge as possible.
if anyone has any previous experience or advice i am open and grateful.
thanks

never had a problem with that one... clear it and see if it reoccurs... '06 cars throw a lot of faults in my experience, not all of them result in repairs necessarily

that would be a nice outcome autozone would not clear the code. maybe discout auto will. just found a place in town that has some other german cars maybe ill try them out if that doesnt work.

update:
discount auto is pulling different multiple codes...
p0113 intake air sensor circuit high input. assume maf. took off CAI housing (fully enclosed filter dirty, blew it out but will probaby revisit and clean)
will get maf cleaner tomorrow before i spend $200 on sensor
p0597 thermostat heater control circuit open. i would assume bad thermostat? will call that shop tomorrow to see if they can help. - should any shop be able to do that on our cars, i read about bleeding the coolant?)
3rd is p111f this from what i read is a failed read?? so i assume to not to big issues. i just do not want to spend money on that maf if i dont have to.
any advice would be nice and will update outcome.

also, they could not clear codes, kept giving them error saying car needs to be "on" but not running. which it was, we tried a few times. hope that doest reflect on my car.

This is why most of the people that know, say: "you need to get the codes read by a shop with a GT1 engine analyzer". Many code readers read only the OBD II codes (specced by the EPA). Some readers will read other codes, and some of those readers attempt to interpret them. But BMW works ONLY with the maker of the GT1, and none of the others can guarantee correct results.

because the car is less than 2 weeks old i emailed my sales person and explained my situation and asked them to make it right. i know it does not have a bumper to bumper warranty(just power train for 60 days) but it was "certified". they are a Volkswagen dealership so i would assume they would have the "gti" scanner. i actually assume they just cleared the codes before they sold it to me... is there any way to prove that?

update: dealers 60 day powertrain warranty covered the thermostat. took it in and all is well. no more codes, they say they did not clear any and none have shown up for the past 500 miles. seems like cleaning the air filter took care of the maf code. still not sure where the cruise control code came from.
