Looking at buying a pre-owned 2008 335I convert with 21k mi. from individual with some factory warranty remaining. He informed me that the fuel injectors were replaced as well as the hpfp. I know there's been LOTS of problems in this area but would really like to have this car. I know anything can happen just don't want to drive around with that 'am I going to break down?" feeling. Any suggestions?

What kind of suggestions are you looking for?

OP...If I may I'll "borrow" your thread for the same purpose and expand upon it for both our sakes.

Mryakan...I, too, am considering an 07-08 335i vert. After reading a ton of negative threads all over the net based on the 335i and the fuel pump/injector/loss of power issues they seem plaqued with, is this the wrong BMW to purchase? I'm a single dad with two kids and this will be my only car, I can't have one that I cannot trust on trips and just getting me around in daily life.

Has BMW addressed the issues as many threads hinted at (recall/service bulletin) to or is it still "hit or miss"? I will be buying mine from a private party most likely so there may not be warranty left. Last thing I need is to get stuck with a lemon and have no recourse since it was bought on the secondary market. I've found a clean low mile 08 that might fit my needs, but the amount of previous owners saying "I'll never buy another BMW again" honestly red flags me big time.

For the record, I've owned an 01 M3, 01 330ci and 02 325ci and loved them all. Just the typical SES light on one that cost me $500 I had not expected but nothing major at all.

OP...apologies if I hijacked your thread but I felt we were both searching for the same info and adding a new thread seemed like overkill.

A voluntary HPFP was issued for select N54 powered vehicles. Check the service history of the car to determine whether the recall was performed and/or it had any issues previously.

Personally I've had my 335xi since Nov '07 with no issues. I went ahead and had the HPFP replaced voluntarily (at no cost due to recall) and while it was in they replaced 3 injectors. The fuel pump is nowhere near a 100% failure rate. This motor was used in tons of vehicles (X5, 5 series, 3 series, and Z4 (I think)) which is why you hear a lot of noise on the interwebs about it.

Other than routine services and the voluntary recall my 335 has never been down, or in limp mode, or anything. If you are interested in one, find a clean one with a solid service history and don't stress about it.

FWIW, I also owned an M Roadster with the S54 that was plagued with the notorious rod-bearing issue. Also had no problems with that one.

While both of the issues did exist the internet tends to magnify the spreading of fear, uncertainty and doubt regarding them though. My dealer, who I have been dealing with successfully for many many years now told me they haven't had any cars come back since this new line of pumps were issued.

My $0.02

I bought an 08 335i coupe with 50,000. IMO the car is so fun to drive it's worth the wonder about the HPFP. As others have mentioned, if it's fixed already under warranty then you shouldn't worry about it. BMW puts a 120,000 mile warranty (10 year I believe) on the new ones so even if they still have problems occasionally, at least it is covered. If you want to be safe, you might pay for extended warranty if you get the car to cover other issues that may or may not arise (injectors, etc).
