Lol @ both you guys. To register my car, I'm looking at about $400 here in Florida.
Tax: $57.15
Initial registration fee: $225
Certificate of title fee: $83
License plate fee: $28
That's why I haven't even considered registering in Florida yet...

Wow - I'm suddenly feeling good. Apparently one of the very few things about the craptastic county i live in is that it's not very expensive to register a car. Not counting initial purchase tax it only costs me $68 a year to register my 540i6. Not too bad, methinks. I feel for y'all on the East coast that have crazy fees - I'd go nuts there as I own 4 old cars - yearly registration would cost almost as much a a couple are worth (in other peoples eyes anyway, I know they're worth more). Yay for the open plains that make cars affordable!! :D

I paid $180 for emissions and to register my 540i/6, that is the tax for buying the car, new plates, title, tabs for a year. I guess WA isn't that heavy on the auto industry yet. You just have to know how to play the system, I'm not taking another emissions test on my car from now on, even though it's required.

Wow, PA must be cheap. My car is $36/year to register. Inspection is $50 and that is at the dealer. I pay about $900/year on insurance and that is with full coverage and low deductible.

I think I paid $65 for 1 year registration in New Jersey... and 2 years emissions is free (In Jersey of all places!)
Jersey dosen't do safety anymore, only emissions every 2 years.

This is just a little perspective guys, not trying to be a smarta$$
$959.50 for this year. :(
CTP (compulsory third party insurance) $313.00
Registration Fee $599.35
Traffic improvement fee $47.15
Queensland I am pretty sure is THE most expensive State in Australia to register a motor vehical.
They don't work by engine capacity in QLD it's the number of cylinders so a three Cylinder is the cheapest car and a 12 cylinder is the most expensive car to register.
It sucks having only a 4 litre engine and I am thrown into the pot with 5, 5.4, 6, 6.7, and 7 litre engines.
Hopefully the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) will begin to apply some pressure to the Government and the Transport Department to restructure.
We will see, but I am not giving up my 540, it makes me very happy burbling along at 110km/h, throwing it around at the track or even if i'm sitting in traffic. :D

Nah - the winter weather and their answer to it will assure that your roads are always torn up. It would just cost too much to fix them every year. Or you could live without the salt in the winter and do like we do here - just throw sand on it and hope that everyone drives more carefully (Pssshh, yeah right). Personally, I like the no salt option - save the cars and let the idiots learn the hard way.

$95 or $99 in Illinois, I can't remember. Tax on our old heaps is $25 when you buy a car 10+ yr old.
I expect this will increase as the state is broke and motor vehicle fees are an easy target. We just took a 66% increase to the state income tax!(It takes cold hard cash to prosecute every outgoing governor)

i pay $1500 for annual taxes on the M5. and insurance is about $300.
we go by engine capacity. so a V10 M5 is about $4000 a year on tax alone. Insurance would prob be between $1500 to $3000 a year. A Bentley would be $5000

When I tagged mine last year here in Indiana it was $210 but of that only $60 was the recurring registration cost. The rest was sales tax and title fees. For the few counties that have every-other-year emissions testing there is no extra fee. Insurance is about $500/year for liability and UIM.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and the Indiana BMV offices are actually not too bad. They're nothing like the berserk circuses Illinois runs.

You're still too close to the city. You need to move farther, like to Elgin. Last time I was there they didn't have the sticker. Unless you need said sticker to park in the city, which would suck. Just one of the reasons I'm glad I moved away from Chicago...

For me it costs $160 twice a year (so 320 total) to register the car.
$72 once a year to have it inspected.
$690 to insure it.
Total $1082 to keep the plates on the car each year.
But when a car gets 25 years old it's possible to register it as a classic and the insurance goes down to next to nothing a year, there is no twice-a-year registration fee and it only has to be inspected every other year.
And it's only 4 years 'till that for my car :D

Mine would be around $30/year if I had standard plates. Its an additional $25/yr for personalized plates here in AZ, so I pay around $55/yr.

They tried that once. Then the governor changed and the new one didn't like the casino's so he tried to strangle them with taxes. A couple closed if i remember correctly. My father works at the Grand Vic in Elgin, and he keeps me informed kinda. I used to work there way back in '99 - '00 myself. And since I'm a driver, I always went away from the city when I wanted something to do. :D

We had it really cheap here until last year (registrations having some part of 2010 in them). Then those idiots in Carson City jacked up the state registration tax by like 300%. So now, all my cars are around 140/year instead of about 60 a year. I was not pleased.

I paid $275 this year to transfer title, taxes, registration and get my CA drivers license. another $49 for smog and $137/mo for insurance on 3 cars. Count myself pretty lucky, but I had it much better in south dakota.
