I posted this already in the audio section but it may help in here as well because most of you own the car :) and may help me find a solution faster.

Anyway, here it is...

I have a 99 E39 wagon w/o DSP.

Me and a friend was working on installing a sub. We removed the stock one and putting in a kicker L7. So we got the sub and amp wired up and after we were all done..the stock amp got fried :mad.

We are not sure what happen. My friend does car audio install and this was done at his work...but he couldnt figure out what was wrong. He apparently tapped the stock amp harness for the sub out line. Hooked up a RCA adapter and ran it to the amp. I should include also that the subwoofer (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1663125#) is tapped into the stock sub harness as well. Any help as to what may have happened here? Those are the only 2 places where we messed w/ stock wiring.

Im thinking now that i should get a 4ch amp to replace the stock one but i read that i will need some crossovers for the front and rear speakers, or get another stock amp...any input as to what happen? and what i can do?

THANKS!

Ok. so i snapped some pics just earlier because i know visuals will always help.

so this is the RCA output that we used (not the same one but something similar)

so we first tapped these wires thinking its the sub wiring but i believe these are for tweeters after some research so i believe this is wrong.

this is where we attached remote wire.

then we tapped the RCA output into the rear speakers.

After running the car for a few seconds...amp smoked up and resulted in this.

So...anyone can help me figure out the correct wiring for the subwoofer?? I'm actually not sure which wire it is. I searched online for some diagrams but i believe they are for a sedan because i only have that one sub in the trunk (nokia) and the diagram shows rear left/right subwoofer. Again, i have a 528i wagon. Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply.
So, what you did on your setup is that you tapped your RCA output to the stock harness brown/orange, yellow/black & brown/orange, blue/black and you did not cut the wires? and then you wired the rca to your amp and amp to sub? Also, are you using your stock amp for the in car speakers?

thanks again.

Correct...:] no cutting; just spliced them into the wires and yes I am still using the stock amps for factory speakers...

Probably should have not done the step where you tap random wires back into the rear speakers.

Hope you get it figured out.

if you run it the same way i did... you should get the subs working but i wouldnt be so sure about the stock system... cause the factory amp got fried... :/ hope you can find another stock amp unit to make them run... either craigslist or ebay *my best guess... good luck bro...
