I bought the DWS for the rear, but it seems like the sidewall is too soft and the rubber too hard, so I was wondering, is the sidewall on the DW just as soft?

I would assume that they would be around the same stiffness. But you might have better luck asking in the Tire/Wheel forum.

The DW and DWS should be a different rubber compound, since the DWS is for winter, and the DW is not...
Reinforcing could be different on the sidewalls too, since the DWS tires are all-season tires, and the DW is a summer tire..
I would verify with Tire Rack and Continental.

Bump.
Any updates?

The DW feels just as soft as the DWS. If you're looking for a solid agressive summer tire I would look elsewhere.

So, you have driven on the Continental DW summer tires?
Size?

No sir, but handling them side by side with the DWS their construction feels nearly identical.

Slightly OT, but I've seen you say a few times that you had the RE-760s and hated them. What exactly disappointed you with them?

The Re-760's are absolutely horrible in the rain, down-right scary...
They break traction easily in the rain, or damp roads.
I spun my car into almost a 360 leaving from a stop light - making a turn.
Which is pretty funny, considering my car has less than 200 hp...

The Re-760's lose traction in the dry, noticeably in turns...
I can feel the tire give out/slide.

They give me little to no confidence in turns, while my Michelin all-seasons give me total confidence.
I am not scared to drive in the rain with the Michelins.

The good things about the Re-760's are:
They ride pretty good, and have somewhat stiff sidewall, mostly because they have more rubber to them IMO - they are a heavy tire.
They are a little louder than the Michelin all-seasons, mostly because they are a stiffer summer tire.

And, basing the performance of the Continental DW summer tire strictly by touching the tire is a little off-base IMO, and not really a true testimonial, since you have not driven on them.

Thanks!
Jason

Hm, thanks. I was leaning towards the RE 760s for my E30 (all the reviews I had read were positive, though not as detailed as yours), but I'm definitely rethinking now.

I'm basing it off the construction. Both the DWS and the DW have merely a shaved nylon ply cap, rather than the full cap your Michelins (Sport A/S Plus, presumably) have, and that leads to increased rollover under hard cornering. That said, I just may end up getting those for my 325is. Looking at my choices with a 16" wheel it might be my best bet. Although I still may opt for 17s, in which case I would either get PZero Neros or the Michelin PSS... Not that that's relevant lol.
