Hi
You can do this swap, and it's been done and documented on the various BMW forums for years now!
Basically, you'll need the monitor unit, the GPS computer, the Amplifier FM/AM unit, GPS loom and aerials, stereo loom - it's up to you if you want the CD changer, TV tuner (analogue or digital) and all the speakers. You'll be most likely wanting to keep the MID functions from the OBC, so you'll need to change your instrument cluster from low to high OBC , and that'll most likely need to be coded to your car. If you can fit it all yourself, you'll save quite a bit of money, if not, expect to pay quite a bit for installation and quite alot of the interior has to come out to lay the looms and fit the GPS aerial etc.
In the UK, when this question is asked, the prices given are around £1200-1500 all fitted, and in the USA, many guys will mention $2000. I see your location says Georgia, so I'm assuming that's the country ? and not the US state?
Good luck !
cheers, Dennis!
here we go again.....
first at all, you have around $1,500.00 to spend in this change?, if you respond YEs, please keep reading....
You will need this
- A complete OEM cable harness for the NAVI options car: you need to take of yours seats front driver and rear and put the new harness there.
- The rear BMW radio, aka BM53
- The rear BMW Navi computer, aka MKI, MKII, MKIII or MKIV
- The NAV antena
- The OEM front widescreen
It's optional to recode your car, I never recode my car, and I have only one issue, if I disconnect my battery and can't turn on the car, so I need to pull back the Widescreen and put the MID and wait 10 minutes with the key in accessory position......
When I say around $1,500.00 I mean without labor......
My best advice, it's to put an aftermarket NAV system, but if you go this way, you will loose the OEM "look" of the stereo of your car , thats why I choose the OEM way, and I think thats why Dennis Cooper from west London choose the aftermarket way, much easy, must cheaper and much better NAV system than the BMW OEM system....
cheers,
