Hi everyone.. long time lurker.. first time poster. :) j/k

I know I know.. I only visit when I want something. :( And on such a tired topic as a blower motor.. alas..

So getting right to it.. I drove the 5 around today to stretch her legs and the A/C was running nice and cold and then all the sudden quit on me. Got home, checked the #19 fuse and it was blown. And blown well. :shifty

So I stuck another 30amp in there and started the car and ran it for a minute, cranked the fan up and made sure the A/C was on.. didn't immediately blow the fuse, but I am now questioning what's next.

I don't want a fire in the fusebox or behind the dash of course, but I wanted to know if there was any other way to see if its the resistor or the blower motor (or both). I know Kessler has a used one available (at the moment), but I don't want to spend money if it was just an old fuse (if there is such a thing).

Lastly, is there a DIY writeup on replacing the blower motor? It's for a 94 540. I don't mind swapping it out if there are no other options, just wanted to see if I could eliminate some guesswork before plunking down the cash for something I don't need.

Thanks..

Replacing the blower motor is easy. I don't think there is a DIY.
It took me maybe a half hour in my old 535. It's behind the panel that the coolant reservoir is mounted on.

I was thinking it was under the dash? Maybe it's on the dash side of the firewall? I thought it might require pulling the center console and all those guts out to get to? I hope not.. just don't know the steps. Is it in the bentley? Haven't had a chance to look yet..

Or are you saying you pull the coolant reservoir out towards the engine to get behind it.. and there is type of plastic removable panel behind it? That would be easy...

Should be in the Bently. It's a cakewalk.

Got it.. found this too....

Looks dead simple as you mention.

Any ideas on whether this is the path for fixing? Meaning are there other reasons the #19 fuse would blow like that and are there other things I should test for before swapping out the blower motor?

Any way to tell whether its the motor or the resistor?

I did my blower motor about 5 months ago. Pretty easy. The Bently book has it all. Pm me and I can scan the pages you need.
Mine wasn't spitting out fuses, but making a horrendous growl and ticking. The points on the motor were all but gone and the bearings were shot.
You could be blowing fuses because of extra unwarranted resistance, like being old and worn out.
