I have acquired a COMPLETE set of the Sport Trim in BLACK (kind of have blue? sparkles up close). When I say complete, I mean the whole trim that goes all the way around (4 doors, above glove compartment, radio cover, L&R of steering wheel, center console and shifter)

Currently, I have VAVONA in excellent shape with no cracks whatsoever. My leather interior is black. My exterior color is cashmere beige.

Should I keep the VAVONA or replace all the wood pieces with this black Sport trim?

why not throw it in and see if it grows on you. If not switch back I like vavona personally. though id like to see pic of your black trim.

From a distance, it does looks like it is as black as piano keys. From vey up close, it has like blue sparkels on it.

Hi,

Cals45fan - the way you describe it, I'd say it's the trim commonly known as 'Technical Graphite' - it's a dark colour, but when looked closely, it almost looks like a brushed effect. This colour trim was common on the earlier E39's, I recently sold a set. They're worth perhaps double of what Vavona is worth.

True black piano trim is what I have in my car, it's apparently very rare indeed! you have to look very closely at it and you can see the metallic flakes, just like you'd see on the external paint of a metallic black car.

There's also an OEM 'flat' black trim for the E39, I have a set of that as well, but it's not in such good condition..

My car is all black inside, leather sports seats, black carpet and of course the dash trims. Once I get my black/dark headliner in and my light smoke tints all round, it'll be that slightly 'moody' interior look that I like !

lastly, you should go with what you prefer !

Cheers, Dennis!

Dennis, you always offer great help for 5ers. Indeed, I have the black trim set with blue metallic flakes. I have seen the 'brushed' looking type and that is not what I have. Mine really is black.

Are you saying that I have the more expensive type?

Hi

If you do indeed have the same trim as I have, then yes, it's the quite rare and hence much more sought after and pricier finish !

The pic there isn't so 'good' but I know it's hard to capture, I'll try and take some pics of my trim close up and post up to compare.

Cheers, Dennis!
