What sup I am new to this but I have a 99 740il and I think my fuel pump went bad. I dont know how to see the signs of that but I been getting codes like misfiring in clyinder 6 also fuel cut off. I change the coil pack also the fuel filter which was back up and the code stil pops up which gives me a horrible ride. Can anyone help?

you change the spark plugs too? if you're still getting the code, swap coils between two cylinders, and see if the code follows the coil.

Well idk as of yet I guess not. My mech told me theres none . Once I drive normal speed itsok then when I accelerate kinda fast then the service light comes on and flash. I can prob have him run a test

turn the key on the car to ACC and listen to hear if the fuel pump comes on. you should be able to hear it.

For the most part fuel pumps either work or not... you might want to change your fuel filter. Go to your nearest chain auto parts store and have them read the codes and report back.

ok so heres the update. i replace the fuel filter also the fuel pump , replace the coil pack in cylinder 6 also change the injector in cylinder 6 and problem still occurs. the mech did a perssure test and it came out good. when the car is on i took out the coils to see if the engine would change signs and it did for all of them except #6. on the computer it says" cylinder 6 fuel trim cut off" i even change the maf sensor and no response...

My guess...a wiring problem between the DME and either the coil or injector for #6.

Pull the #6 coil and see if you have spark there...

Btw...I deleted your other thread...no need for multiple threads for the same issue.

Theres no spark on cylinder 6 . It does sounds more electrial to me now. Is it as byw as y to find out if its wiring?

It could be I suppose. But honestly I have never seen a wiring problem like this on an E38. They are just too well made in that respect! Have you swapped the coil around to see if the code jumps to another cyl?

Bad attempt at humor I suppose, its a quote from Pulp Fiction, anyway . . .My apologies. I thought the pharse "byw as y" was some kind of acroymn or something that I had missed.

Its my job to be the grammer police and inform users to clean it up for better help.

But..back at the ranch...Ive personally never run into this either. But if you have no spark on 6, at least we have it narrowed down to electrical. Did you try to swap the coils as mentioned? That would prove if its the coil itself or not. Other than that, your going to have to test that coil wire all the way back.

Here you go. Works best with IE8.
