I have a 05 E46 but will be putting a down payment on a new 335i coupe some time this week to reserve my build spot. Test drove a 335xi sedan (auto) and that thing got up pretty quick. just a few questions. is the navigation and HK sound system worth the extra money yet? i know both were pretty crappy for the E46. Any extra info before i RSVP my build slot would be great.

Can't comment on Nav/iDrive. Although many people seem to like the Nav, and the new iDrive seems to have won best-vehicle-controller honors.
If you weren't impressed with the HK on the E46, you probably won't be much more impressed with it on the E92. However, you DEFINITELY won't be impressed with the base stereo, so you need to get the HK/Logic 7.

Just going to play devil's advocate here. Isn't there a new 3 series style coming out late this year/next year? Why buying a brand new 335 now? If anything, I'd think it would make more sense to look for a used one of this year's current style if you are set on one. Seriously mean no disrespect, just an honest question. Anything wrong with the 05 currently that makes waiting for the new ones not worth it?
(In general, I'm actually curious if many people on the fence for a new 3 series are now waiting for the next revision)

BMW is introducing an entire new line of four-cylinder models to the 3 series...one with a turbo. There will be at least one in-line six cylinder engine but probably not a turbo from what I have been reading. If you have your heart set on a six cylinder turbo I would seriously consider a CPO 335 or a late 2011 335 where serious discounting might be available.
Here's a link that may give you a little more perspective:

I do not like the new F30 coming out. I feel like they stole a engineer from Kia and said "design us a car". Its hard to find an american spec 335i with the options i want. As of right now I "built" a 335i coupe with M sports package, convenience package, cold weather package, nav, and HK sound (i dont see the option for the logic 7) and the car is gonna run me about $44,000. From what I have been comparing to the states seems to be pretty cheap. Also when I come back home BMW will ship it for me and I dont have to pay sales tax. Nothing is wrong with my 05 other then that its a 2.5 liter automatic. i just finished all preventative maintenance on it. IE spark plugs, vanos, fluid change, cooling system blah blah blah. i like the E90 out and I know BMW is switching to alot of 4 cylinders due to the states new MPG law and big fines for cars that don't hit 35mpg or something like that. The age of big engines is dying. ALso all the used 335i here are usually beat down pretty good. I will talk with BMW and ask about the logic 7 sound.

^Fair enough. Sounds logical. Was just curious.
EDIT: Just checked out some pics of the F30. I agree. Holy crap it's ugly. What in the heck were they thinking with the front end?

I agree. This is only the second time I have been disappointed with the look of a new model, the first being the 5 series configuration that ended in 2010. My thinking is that a new model shouldn't just be different but BETTER in almost every aspect over its predecessor. I consider myself fortunate that I was able to purchase my '07 E92 335 at the peak of its design and performance curve. I am anxious and curious to see what the reviews will be on the new 3 series.

Guess what; E30 owners said that about the E36 successor. E36 owners said that about the E46. E46 owners said that about the E90.
As for the front end; some of it is the European mandates regarding pedestrian safety.
