Im looking at getting reversing sensors or a camera for my e36. I have priced up the camera and screen part of my options but now I want to have a look at the sensor side of things. Which one should I get, I have seen a couple with LED displays that tell you the distance from the object but I do not want this, I am satisfied with a beeping mechanism that beeps faster as you get closer to the object.

And what is a good DIY for this?

I like the idea about the sensors. The only bad thing is drilling those big holes in your bumper. Imagine in the future the system quits working or you get tired of it and you will be left with those imperfections.

Camera on the other side can be mounted on the license plate without any drilling at all.

I'd scrap that plan.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I drove a Ford Edge over the weekend, and the reverse sensors are kinda cool. But the car is high and the blind spot is huge, so the back-up beeper is a nice feature. But your E36 is small, and low, and you don't need reverse sensors. Save your money. Or, spend the money on something else like tires and wheels, suspension upgrades, that sort of stuff.

I have both camera and ultrasonic detectors on my Ford Superduty. Both work fine.
Ultrasonic detectors provide a distance count down to the object it detects and the camera is a camera thus you can see the display quite well.
Camera systems are wired (no interference) and wireless (some interference but not much of an issue).
The choice is really yours...
