Has anyone else had to have the rear main seal replaced? I had mine replaced at 54,000 miles

Hopefully that was covered under some secret TSB. A rear main is not likely @ that mileage unless you're having blow issues in the cyclinders. But to have that @ 54k miles means someone has driven the absolute piss out of the car and the turbo + compression ratio is enough to allow some to bypass the rings. Did they say anything else? A smell of gas in the oil possibly?

It was covered under CPO. They said nothing else. I put in a complaint to BMW, but no follow up from them.

Well at least it was covered. On a boosted engine I wish they put an oil pressure gauge in the car, at least then you would be able to better diagnose the issue.

Had mine replaced on my 2006 330i. Leak was there before 30,000 miles. Mechanic took pictures and said the original seal was not put in correctly and after time it wore through on one side and started the leak. While not common there are other e90's out there that have had this problem which is apparently something that was a f-up from factory. Sucks. Cost me over $1,600.
