Has anyone had this problem?
I have a previously owned (non-existent maintenance records), 1992 525i wagon. The transmission went into failsafe so I had the transmission speed sensor changed out. That seemed to fix it until, three months later, it went out again. After a rebuild, the mechanic told me that there was still a problem, and that the reason it probably went on the fritz in the first place was an electrical short. But he can't find it.
BTW, my mechanical ability is rudimentary; I can change out brake pads, etc., but anything more complex is beyond me because I live in NYC and don't have anywhere to work on it.
