I am having a problem with the key fob on my 98 E36 vert. I bought the car a few months ago and love it. Recently, the fob stopped working the door locks. The alarm still arms and disarms with the fob and the doors still lock if I use the key. What happened?

Check the two microswitches under the hood right above the front wheels on either side. Make sure they are in the closed position when the hood is down. I had the same issue. I adjusted the switch slightly to become depressed when the hood was closed and boom, door locks began working again.

Which alarm do you have (http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/f3/e36-alarm-identification-guide-3t-2t-3g-ews-t39173/)? Do you have any problems with the driver's door switch around hte inching and the interior lighting? The doors will not lock remotely if the car thinks the door is not closed.
