Hello ,
My E34 has a retrofit IHKR II climate control , now the control unit of it had a little incident. Now the problem is finding a replacement there are many IHKR III units but hardly any IHKR II units can i simply connect the III unit ? it has the same 3 connectors or is there a difference in sensors and motors used.
Part number is 6411-8 390 134.4
Or if anyone has one can they take some high res pics for me of the area around the varistor so i can rebuild my unit .

It's best if you get the a unit coded for IHKRII. The units are all the same from I think 1/90, but are coded differently depending on IHKRI, IHKRII, IHKRIII or IHKA. I have used an IHKRI coded unit in my IHKRII car and it seemed fine (only 1 production month off from mine). Some p.o. had put an IHKA coded unit in my car and it seemed to work fine except the recirc button didn't work as advertised -- it worked, just not the way you'd expect. That problem was remedied when I got a correct IHKRII unit.
I don't know if an IHKRIII unit would work with no problems or not -- haven't tried that in my IHKRII car yet. I did get lucky and find an IHKRII unit in the junk yard and that's what's in my car now.

Uncoded means it hasn't been told what it is controlling -- IHKRI, IHKRII, IHKRIII or IHKA. As I alluded to in my last post, which you apparently didn't read.

While I did note that these units are specifically coded; I read nothing to imply there
was such a thing as "uncoded" units . I must be special if I failed to ASSUME this!
Thanks for your time...

Actually a "Varistor" was there and burned out i guess.
The thing is supposed to take 20A so strange why that fried and the rest looks ok. On the IHKR III units there is no varistor in this place.
So wich program is used for coding i have 2 of those carsoft interfaces.
By the way the smell is lovely old fried electronics haha dont get that from modern stuff anymore.
