I previously posted all over the internet, wondering if what I'd heard was true... that you can replace the stock O2 sensor w/ one that's to a diff. car. I heard the only difference was the length of the cable. After receiving only a few unsure responses, I went ahead (since I could get a 735i O2 sensor real cheap from someone I know), and I installed it in my '95 525i. Both the original and the replacement parts were Bosch. So, after yanking and pulling I got the old one off, installed the new one, connected evertyihng, and took it for a spin. At first, I was skeptical, since the "Check Engine" light was still on. I continued to drive, and warm up the car. After about 10 minutes the light finally went off, and everything seems OK. Hope this can help someone.

So why would you want to go with a different one? Price?

Well in my case I just happened to know someone w/ a brand new 735i one that was cheap. Otherwise, just buy the one for your car, just sayin it's possible to hook the other one up if the situation arises.

Yea, it makes sense...they're basically a standard Bosch part you can get from Autozone...Mercedes, BMW, whomever...all use essentially the same technology, the length of the wire is the biggest difference.
