I'm interested in installing performance upgrades on my M5. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I can spend around 6k. In addition, I would like to install a free flow exhaust, however, I would prefer to keep the stock (or near stock sound level). I hate loud exhaust. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey Mark.

Tubi exhaust sounds sweet, not too loud. Expect to pay more than $2K for any exhaust for the M5 though.

After that I'd say software. Powerchip seems to be the choice of many M owners. This is about $1K.

Active Autowerke offers a cold air intake for about $949.

GruppeM also has one but for $1295.

Actually, just visit Beastpower.com for many other accessories.

I'd say KW Coilovers $2300-$2800. Not many people seem to be going simple by just getting the springs.

Of course if you have the $$$ go for the on the fly adjustable AC Schnitzer DFC setup (over $6K- ouch)

I would get Koala Motor sports 3.45lsd diff($2600), this will make your car a monster. Using Powerchip software will be a perfect match to raise you RPM limiter (maybe 7300 rpm). I would aslo match these two upgrades with K&N factory replacement air filters. I don't see a real need to spend the $1000 on intakes. The gears and software are going to make the biggest difference.

The next Mod I would do is the coilovers or Koni/ H&R spring and strut combo.

If you have money left over tint the windows.

Try www.beastpower.com
They have lots of stuff for M5's including Most everything WannaM said. Not sure about the prices (never compared) but they have everything in one place so that has to count for something. Hope it helps. :)

Kudo540, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't H&R only offer front springs?

And yeah, I completely forgot the diff.

Yeah, you might be right about the H&R springs, but I know that Koni's have different rear perch settings so the owner can adjust the rear ride height. Aslo I have seen people add new grooves to the rear struts to add more drop. Maybe Coilovers would be the best bet if you can afford it.

You might also want to check out www.rennsport.com for pretty much everything at great prices. Things not discussed were shorter intake plenums, ignition solutions plasma coils, short shift kits (I like the RMS one), headers. Your best bet would be to head on over the www.m5board.com and converse with individuals who drive and have extensively modified the same car as yours.
