I want to remove and replace the ac crank pulley.

How easy is it to remove the AC crank pulley? Not the one on the ac compressor, but the one on top of the crank pulley on a '93 e36 325i?
If you look at the crank pulley, you may notice it consist of two pullies. One is the crank pulley and on top of that is the ac pulley.

I think I can remove it without removing the crank pulley bolt. There are, I think, four smaller bolts that bolt the ac pulley to the crank pulley.

Dont know if you figured it out yet but the ac pulley is bolted on top of the harmonic balancer by the bolts i forget exactly how many there are(6 i think) Then the pulley falls off and but the bolts back in and your done. If you need pics or more info let me know i have an engine laying around to take pics of.

Why do the bolts need to go back in? Is the remaining crankpulley/trigger wheel assembly 2 pieces or 1? I put the bolts back in, but I think they're too long. I got some strange noises coming from the engine after removing my A/C system which weren't there before. The noise was there until I pushed the clutch in. The pressure on the crank thrust washers from pushing in the clutch was enough to permit the bolts to clear whatever they were rubbing on, but as soon as I let the clutch out the noise was back. Now I think they've self clearanced themselves. It doesn't make any noise anymore.

You could always just put a couple washers under the bolt heads to duplicate the thickness of the pulley you just removed, but I'm looking for someone to confirm that they're not needed at all.

You don't need the bolts
