so currently im running straight pipes........ yes, no anything in between. its temporary - ish. it sounds awesome, but its very very loud and i dont like it to be so loud. soooo. new muffler or glasspacks? i prolly wont be putting in a new res or cat as i dont need it and i want it somewhat nice sounding. glasspacks r cheap and simple. but i dont want it to howl. what you guys think?

Not sure about the 6pack in yours but on my 8cyl I've installed a custom fabbed 2.25" mandrel bent system from the cat's back and have fitted a straight through twin in twin out muffler and it sounds pretty sweet. Does'nt drone, sounds deep at idle and nice and raspy under revs...

i prefer ceramic coated ball bearing mufflers. they sound great and there is a noticable power gain.

Stfu. There is no powergain.

Scoops, come down and hang out with us down on the southshore, you can hear my magnaflow. I also have a remus for sale cheap.

We wouldn't expect anything less in from you.

VIDS of said straight pipe please.

I would put only an high flow cat easier for the o2 sensor or a resonator only and an o2 sensor trick to get it work. (dont know how to explain it its like you put it in a small tube perpendicular from the exhaust it will read like it was after a cat, anyway)

Best for sure would be an high flow cat + a resonator.

No. We don't give you the benefit of being witty and clever because we instantly assume you are always wrong. And we assume that because its true.

I got it, how did my post not make that clear. Obviously a turbo is much more expensive than a muffler.

I've had this problem on small imports. Even the most expensive muffler can rasp, the best exhaust sound I've ever heard comes from the magnaflow (or similar style perforated tube) resonators. Honestly in the m60 I'd run no mufflers and a 3"x20" inch magnaflow resonator but it's loud, because resonators do more sound 'conditioning' than muffling in my opinion.

I will agree that glasspacks are cheap and simple, but they have a finite life span. I'd recommend you get a straight through, chambered, or even twin-loop muffler that uses baffles instead of a consumable fiber material.

Yes, it will cost more, but not much. Go to Magnaflow.com and find a muffler that is the size you need: http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/universalsatinxl.asp

Add resonators or baffle inserts to the midpipe as needed to quiet down the exhaust note.

Glasspacks sound like shit, especially on a six.

I'm confused... Why would you be talking about a turbo when originally you said muffler? And with your track record in this forum, I'd suggest you just make a new account and try to keep from saying too many stupid things in the future.

Slightly off topic but semi related, has anyone ran just cats and stock resonator? I have an m50 and want it to be a bit louder and was considering just cutting off stock muffler and welding straight places in it place. Or maybe cutting open stock muffler and taking out some of internals?

E34's don't have post cat o2 sensors. OBDII cars have post cat sensors, not OBDI cars. No need to try & trick an o2 sensor into thinking it's after a non-existent cat.

^wtf, I feel bad for people that have been around here for a while..
Anyways, are you running dual straight pipes the whole way back or a dual to single set up? My set up is dual to single 2.5" which has had some various videos of it posted in different stages. My current set up has a Honda SOHC/cummins hum in the car with windows up, sounds good with windows down for my tastes... I was thinking also what else to go to.

I think this is... a single through highflow cat and glass pack via Mikemxbike4

i'm just did a muffler delete on my m30 and haven't finished the piping yet... as it sits it's WAY loud and annoying. sounds very tinny. when i finish it i'm gonna hvae to put in at least a baffle or something because it doesn't sound good. m50 might sound a little smoother though?

No he was right originally. I have an m50. But it looks like I'll just invest in a muffler rather than leave it straight from resi

In my experience, the longer the muffler the better and smoother the sound, they don't drone either.

wow that just sounds unhealthy Id recommend an after market resonator...itll still be pretty damn loud tho but much more refined

Haha I just did that to my m60 this afternoon. After driving around with no pipes after the cats yesterday I couldn't deal with the pussy stock set up any longer. Sounds pretty decent but it is a little raspy. My boy did the same thing to his e90 a while back and for the price you cant really complain. Still not quite loud enough for me though. Anyone got vids with a aftermarket resonator?
