I'm not sure how long this thread will be around, but I hope it brings a lot of attention.

Basically, the idea of this thread would be to put up prices of things that you've just bought....or, to come here and look at prices that other people paid for the same item you're about to buy to see if you're gonna get jipped or not.

For instance, today I bought a blacked out grill set for $31 and some change shipped from ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180585943412&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_3780wt_1165 I feel like it was a pretty good deal. But now, I'm lookin at a cup holder and arm rest and the guy wants $150, and I feel like that is pretty expensive, hence the reason for this thread. This thread would essentially tell me if $150 is too much or is about average for the cupholder/armrest or any other part for our E36's really.

What do you guys think?

Also, you could maybe post the link to where you got the things you bought so it would make it easier to find for anyone looking for that same part.

Prices for used parts will cost whatever you're willing to pay for them. For some parts it could be over $400 for others, less than $10. It all depends on the deals you find. I got a set of Black leather sport seats and 4 mint condition black door panels for under $100... I've seen people pay 4 times that. I also just bought a used PS pump for $40. And a leather steering wheel with airbag for $30... I'm a cheapskate... I shop around ;) lol

Well to anwser your question. I paid $100 for Fog lights and brackets, front back embloms and the whole armrest set. So i would look some more.
I got all that from a guy here on the forum.

Always check the classifieds here. Everything is useally a deal.

Instead of buying grille's you should have rubber coated them (Plasti-Dip). 5 bucks a can.

Yea used part prices are all over the board.

I got a OBDI exhuast and midpipe with a fairly new o2 sensor for $100 last year off craigslist and a ZF tranny, shifter linkage and driveshaft for $300. Ive bought a bunch of door panels and paid over $200 each for them but they are for a dove grey coupe interior. Very hard to find and harder to find in good condition.

I bought a new set of Struts and shocks on ebay for $150 but they aren't brand name.

It all depends on deals you find and how long you are willing to search.

Honestly I don't think people will search for a thread on how much stuff costs. They will do what theyve always done here. come in and post a question on what brand is best, where to buy and how much it will cost.

and we'll give the same answers we give every week.

See, thats the exact point of this thread, so that we don't have to keep answering those questions. I think if this gets big enough, it might be able to stop people from posting so many questions about prices. I know it would at least help me.

Sorry to disagree but newbs don't search. Look at the top of the forum. There is a sticky thread telling newbs to search. It gets very little activity. So unless this thread stayed on the top page they wouldn't find it.

I applaud the effort

For a much bigger picture..96 328is with m3 body, paint job, rims (not completely my taste) the whole deal. Afe intake and "chip", that's what the previous owner said, but it's obdII so I'm guessing he meant some sort of software. Clean, oil changes done, pulls strong etc all for $2300 :D just have to find the right deal. The guy needed $3000 for his other car but happened to get scammed with a wire transfer ebay thing so he got the car back and I offered cash which was a huge relief so it worked out for both of us

I'm not necessarily saying used parts. I mean, yeah, it's cool to maybe post on here the price you paid for your used parts that you got for a bangin' price, but I was thinking this would follow more along the lines of vendors as well. Like for instance if someone ordered a fuel pump from some website after they searched around and found out that certain website had the lowest price on fuel pumps, they could post it here so that in the future, people that need these parts and don't feel like getting them used could check out this thread and figure out where to go really quick.

bavauto and pelican parts are who I personally use. quick response on orders and that day shipping if you place your order before 5 or so.

I understand what you're trying to do and i applaud the effort. I don't mean to sound negative or get in an argument but the fact is that the people who need a thread like you want to make won't use it. Newbs generallly don't understand how this forum works when they first come here. They don't know about the supporting vendors and all that they offer when it comes to quality and price. I say that from my own experience and watching countless newbs come in here and ask away without doing a single search. Mostly they don't know what to even search for. They just bought a BMW and it is different than any car they have owned or will ever own.

Its not that the info isnt out there. Its not that your idea isn't worthwhile. Its just that it will get lost in a maze of thousands of other posts and only one in a hundred newbs will even try to find it.

You would be better making a thread that just uses keywords like price, quality, struts, etc then say "if you're looking for any of these try the supporting vendors first"

that might work. I thought it would be a great idea to have a thread dedicated to no start issues where people could post a simple issue/symptom they had and what fixed it. After 5000 posts I now realize there are just a million different possiblities for that one simple thing. No one posted on it.

as much as I get frustrated when a newb comes in and asks what I now know a simple search would have given an answer for....its just the way it is. I was the same way for at least a dozen posts. Then I learned.

I definitely see what you mean. It sucks too. I was a newb once, but i tried my best to not post stupid sh!t. I doubt it worked, but it got me to where I am now. I've learned a lot from older members, as I'm sure you probably did as well. I don't know if you remember him, but TCarlisle helped me a hell of a lot with understanding the coolant system.

It just seems like no matter how many times you say it, newbs still don't understand the search function. I mean, right now there is a guy posting a thread about raceland's and I would just love to e-punch him right in the throat. And he had over 200 posts!!

I guess I was just trying to help out a little on here by creating this, but the more you mention it, the more I'm in aggreance with you that it is pretty much pointless.

Btw, you still owe me tacos, fly
