Hi I am new to this board and I got a few questions. I am buying a 1997 528i, but everytime I turn on the car, its parked car ventilation light turns on and stays on as well. The owner has no idea why the light turns on and she has never done anything about it since she told me it just recently turned on at 8000 miles ago. However, there is little info on the parked car ventilation in the car's manual, so I was wondering if you guys can give me more info on its function and tell me how to turn off that light because it is bothering me!!! Also if it is necessary for me to take it to the mechanic, how much do you think that it would cost me?

Lastly, I am purchasing a 1997 manual 528i with black interior/exterior for $16800. The car has 53000 miles and the interior/exterior is in okay condition, except for a penny-size ding on the front driver's door and various rock dings under the back bumper. There's no major problems that I am aware of and the car drives great. Do you think I am getting a good deal or am I paying too much? Would you have purchased it and how much would you haved payed for it? Also, is there anything I should know about, ask, or look at before I complete the deal? Thanks.

its very nice to meet you and welcome to bimmerforums.com (the happiest place in the world contrary to what disneyland tells you  ) now on to your issues!

#1 has the engine block been replaced because if not, it will be plagued by the nikasil problem! (assuming its a v8 im 90% sure it is)... here is some more info on that v8 nikasil info (http://www.koalamotorsport.com/tech/misc/v8shortblock.htm)

#2 that is a farily good deal assuming that #1 has been fixed / replaced.

#3 I have no suggestions about the parked vent problem... :dunno alot of people here tho... lets give this issue a day or 2 to "simmer" and maybe we can get some help for you!

Actually I dont think I have to worry about that, its a 2.8 Liter 6 cylinder engine.

go 4 it! make sure to get it checked out at a reputable mechanic and carfax it. (i would recommend a&e performance for getting it checked out, they are in campbell)

Your'e right, no concern about the Nikasil issue, since none of the E39s have that issue, expecially the 2.8l 6-cylinder. :)
