View Full Version : Which Guibo? Urethane tranny mounts?

Ok. I'm stumped. Search isn't helping me. I know there is a difference between these two guibos:

Up to 7/92: 26117511454

from 7/92: 26111227869

If I recall correctly, one is thicker. My problem is that I have an S52 swap with ZF310 tranny that I didn't do myself, and the shop doesn't remember what they used. It looks like it's about an inch thick if that helps. My car had an M20 to start (1990 525i). I know the 91 and 92 cars used the ZF tranny, so maybe it is still the earlier version. Needs replacing as part of my swap to the new chassis.

Secondly,

I noticed that my tranny mounts were sheared in the crash. Rubber, so I can see how. Anyway, Realoem is showing 4 mounts for a ZF tranny car. Mine only has 2 cylindrical ones on the crossmember as far as I can tell. So, let's play guess which ones I have:

Realoem shows: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HD53&mospid=47404&btnr=23_0119&hg=23&fg=10

2x 24701138435 and

1x 24701138427 and

1x 24701138428

#2 (435) in the pic looks more like what I have. But they bolt to the crossmember. Any idea what the other 2 are? UUC has some nice urethane mounts, but may not fit E34's?

Any help you can give would be awesome.

Thanks.

Hmmm. ZF has a bigger output shaft than getrag. Early guibo is 135mm diameter. That's sounding about the right size.

The UUC tranny mounts fit a lot more than what they list on the site. Call 'em up and ask them. Last time I had a simple question I called and Rob himself answered and was more than happy to answer my silly question. Was also more than happy to talk about some other E34 stuff as well as his cars. I was dismayed to hear he rarely uses his M5T or his E38.

Looks like they will work. Going to phone to confirm, but several websites (Bavauto, etc.) are listing them for E34's!

i had the uuc mounts on my e39 M5 for a few months. I really did not like the added noise and vibration that came into the cabin, so i replaced the rubber. I may still have the uuc mounts somewhere if you're interested. They should work on any e34, i used them temporarily on my e34 m5 when i had a broken mount (same result, noise and vibrations, didn't like 'em)

I have the UUC trans mounts (black) with the enforcer cups with no real complaints..... I Walked in the door at TMS and met (again) w/ Will turner who was awesome to deal with.

Which tranny mounts do you have? UUC makes three different ones. I asked Rob about them for my car & he'd only tell me to go with the softest ones for my car. He didn't tell me why or why I shouldn't go for any of their stiffer mounts.

I don't mind it firming up the shifts. Hell you should've felt the shifts in the old Chevy truck I used to drive. WOT upshifts were so firm that they'd break traction @ 55mph w/9.5" wide tires. Not to mention it felt like someone had rear-ended you when it shifted that hard. Always freaked out new passengers...:D

Probably has to do with power output - ie. if the engine under hard acceleration tries to deflect the transmission positioning.

Also relevant is whether the car will see track/autocross time where g-forces would deflect the transmission positioning.

I've got a bit of all of the above. Supercharged S52 with occasional HPDE and autocross.

Is this a reply to my wondering why Rob of UUC didn't explain his choice of tranny mount for my car?

Best I could tell during the convo I had with him is that people driving street cars (especially 2 pedal cars) don't like the firm mounts for their trannys.

I wished he would've explained his opinion so I could've applied his opinion properly to my particular situation as I'm not your typical auto driver.

at the time i bought mine, i didn't have a choice, only one was available (this was for the e39 m5 again, maybe 6-7 years ago). They are red. I had the "enforcer" cups, which i ran for a couple weeks and removed, then just the poly mounts, which i later removed for stock rubber.

I believe now, with the choices they offer, the red is the stiffest/hardest.

The rogue engineering mounts are really nice. I have them in my M5 and they made a nice difference in shifting quality and feel versus new stock M5 mounts.
