That's right, I've come, another ignorant teenager, looking to enter the world of possible bee em ownership, ready to bug you with questions. I've had my eyes on them beautifull pieces of bavarian engineering scince I was a wee boy, everything from the 2002 tii, to the elusive z8, and now that car ownership is a prospect, why not make it a bimmer. I've got a very modest budget (to the tune of around 5500 canadian dollars), and was wondering if one of you wonderfull people could point me in the best direction for a car that I could drive daily, but also enjoy a spirited weekend drive in. Thanks for you're time,

You can get an older 3. Anything from the mid eighties to mid ninties. Check the E30 and E36 forums to ask about models to look for, prices and general problems.

I would definetly recomend a 3, they seem to be the most reliable and affordable, you should be able to get a 92' 318 or 325 with a moderate amount of miles if you really look (ebay, auto-trader, roadfly, etc.), If you want a convertible you should consider the e30, as it is affordable, that is what I am looking at now.
Could prolly pick up an E36 3 series, at least an early one. Aim for a 93 3series.

yeah, you should be able to find an E36.
I only got $5000 for mine when I traded it in. Damn Dealership :complain

There's definitely a reason a vast numbah of bimmer owners refer to them as the '$tealer'. :evil2

tell me where to find an E36 for that kind of money ...(hint: he said CANADIAN dollars)
an E30 should be within your budget limits but take your time and look for a good one.

Be careful of the 92 325s, they are known to have quite a few problems. I'd shy away from this year.
can someone do the math for us who don't know the exchange rate between canada and us dollars?
