You know if you compress it via zip, you can get the filesize down to ~30mb

FWIW, if all you care about is the E46, you shouldn't need a release any newer than V32 or so. The one exception might be if you're working on an M3, since I think the emissions recall happened after V32 was outdated. The rest of the files haven't been updated since 2005 or so.

I'm re-uploading it in as zip archive. It's about 127 Mb now. as opposed to 600MB

Yep. v28 daten files for E46 with MS43 are sufficient.
Both v28 and v40 tell me that the same DME update is available for my E46.

Upload it as a .rar archive (not .zip) and the e46 daten files will be 36,9MB and unpacked to .iso almost 650MB.

I actually used winrar to compress it. I considered .rar but I remember the days when rar files were not so common and it was just annoying to have to download winrar where as windows can handle zips out of the box.
