maybe someone is interested in changing the background of EasyDIS. Ive tricked out how to stop the automated background restoring :)

1) set root password for DIS
2) connect with ftp client to dis
3) download /home/etc/dis.tif.old
4) rename dis.tif.old -> dis.tif on host
5) upload dis.tif to /home/etc/
6) download /etc/start/auotst.org
7) edit auotst.orgwith notepad++ and change or delete this line

cpio -idmu < /etc/start/master
to

#cpio -idmu < /etc/start/master
8) upload auotst.orgto /etc/start/
9) reboot DIS

I tried to use a custom image, but it isn't working shows a white rectangle, we can use only the 3 default image (BMW, Mini and RR) or there is a way to use a personalized one?

You must convert it in the right format. Use Photoshop oder Gimp to check default image properties and convert your own to the same size, colors and type.

It is autostart.org in my case for EasyDis v44 1.0. You can also delete /etc/start/master.

I think your problem is the wrong ftp client and/or editor. Unix uses different coding for files and special properties. Ive used FileZilla for FTP and Notepad++. Check on FTP if /etc/start/auostart.org is executable. maybe easier to delete only /etc/start/master and acceppt one error during start.

Yes, you have a problem, I hope you made a snapshot before you edited the files.
I had the same problem, so I replaced both files from DIS V57 to V44 and made a custom image, now everything works fine.

I also did not have autostart.org. The one you need to change is auotst.org, but it should start ok if you change autostart too.

I found I had to change autost.org before renaming dis.tif

There are different versions of EasyDis? Ive only autostart.org when i remember correct. In this folder all scripts are located for starting the UnserInterface. you can also change die pyramid which is shown by loading. I think it was something with SITTY. There is also a folder start2 with the same file, maybe this must changed too.

My Setup is as following:
EasyDIS v44 1.0
GT1 v57 (GER)

Thanks, find out it was just a matter of Shutting down and restart DIS not only rebooting it.
Nice tip man :)

I modified both autostart and autost.org and everything is working fine.

ctrl + sysrq -> console
cd /etc/start
vi autost.org -> search line with arrow down -> type "dd" - enter -> type ":wq" enter

cd /home/etc
mv dis.tif dis.tif.old2
mv dis.tif.old dis.tif

init 6

No need for full shutdown, just END -> END (Software Reset)....

So, it is not possible to use color pictures, because the picture is converted during DIS bootup to an postscript. Even if you use 256 colors, all colors are gone...

@ALL

It is auotst.org, not autostart.org ...

BRAIN WAS MAYBE ON AUTO-COMPLETE MODE ;-)

Some new Infos!

If you want to change colors from DIS, just look into /home/dis/Xdefaults & /home/dis/Xdefaults.org

-- iam not really sure what dis is using, *.org or without extension....

you should use a picture with white frame, because the frame where you can see the picture is a little bigger than the "real" picture. but you can change the color of the frame in file Xdefaults....

hehe .. thanks for the sharing ..

opt in my experience on the procedures ..

1. i changed both the auto* files ..
2. after replace the dis.tif image file ... --> under dis command .. issue the init 6 command .. it will reboot with the latest image ..

notice if i just restart the vmware .. it seems to load the previous image still .. :redspot
therefore, after each image swap ..
type
#init 6

let it reload .. enjoy the new splash screen ^^

this weekend i will change my suspension, maybe i have time in the evening to search.....i would like to have a white/lightblue design :redspot

dis is using mwm as window manager, so you can look also here:

http://xwinman.org/rc/jrf-xdefaults (http://xwinman.org/rc/mwm.Xresources-matt)

Normally if the color is not set, mwm is using the default colors, so i think you dont need to set ALL colors, only the "master" colors. Give it a try ;-)

Basically no need to go into the touchscreen menu, ctrl+sysreq works at any point
Just changing to the original tif is quite a lot faster via commandline...
(I think after installing dis vi usage shouldn't be a big problem when steps are written down...)

ctrl + sysrq -> console
cd /etc/start
vi autost.org -> search line with arrow down -> type "dd" - enter -> type ":wq" enter

cd /home/etc
mv dis.tif dis.tif.old2
mv dis.tif.old dis.tif

init 6

I agree, but UNIX is not very friendly to those who are not careful with case-sensitivity and spacing.

of course, but it shouln't be that hard to type exactly what i wrote above :rolleyes

(nevertheless, backing up the vm before doing such stuff would be a VERY good idea :))

Ok some new Infos for experienced users. Enable hidden files in FileZilla!

Startfile for Xserver (dis user):
/home/dis/.startxrc -> (start for das menu)

Startfile for Xserver (root user):
/.startxrc -> (start for fister easy dis menu script)

Color Resssources for MwM:
/home/dis/.Xdefaults -> (color description for das/dis/com/tis........)

Fister Admin Scripts:
/service/fister/fister1 -> (script for fisters menu)

Menu can easy edited and extended.

There is also a apache http server running. I will check if it is able to run php, then maybe someone can code a fister easydis menu replacement for apache in php....

colors are changing, but till now i have not figured out how to change the main window color. tis/diag works with colors... maybe different source colors file. i try to trace the startup....

i dont know the name of the main window object, maybe das / dis or something... i will try to change every grey to blue, then we will se if the main window changes then...

but for now i will translate fisters menu first...

It was only a matter of time before this came to fruition.

Ken "fister" Martin purposefully locked the image so the cheapskates on ebay would not have a field day with pirated software selling at a premium. You now have enabled them to do that and do it very easily (EasyDIS is as easy as it gets thanks to Ken).

Thanks.

The majority of people I know with DIS buy an ebay VM image of DIS 57.
I do always recommend people stick to EasyDIS for sorting out the problems, but I wouldn't worry that people would be passing EasyDIS off as their own.

your picture needs to be in greyscale. I used photoshop to do mine so im not sure how its done in gimp.

I also ran into issues when i started messing with the files in the FTP client(copying the new file in already named DIS.tif). I was only able to make it work when i copied the new image in under a different name, then renamed from root in DIS, followed by init 6 to reboot.

Here is mine now
