shift indicator switch removal

Hi guys,

I see a nice writeup on cleaning the switch, but my current problem is more basic--how do you get the switch OUT you can clean it?!

My '90 535i is stuck in limp mode and cleaning this switch is recommended as one of the possible fixes, so I'd like to give it a try.

Instructions or a link would be greatly appreciated!

remove the shift knob, remove the console plate, remove the (allenhead?) screw that holds it in place.
didnt take me but a minute or two looking at it to figure it out, and it has been a long long time

Thanks for the response. I got it out, cleaned it up, and I still have the same problem. Oh well!

Do you happen to have any advice on where I could get a TCU: Bosch # 0 260 002 077? That appears to be the next step in trying to get out of limp mode.

Do you know how I can get hold of Binjammin? He said he had that TCU, but has disappeared on me. Seems like you're an old hand here and may be in contact with him.

If you can get us in contact again, that would be great!
