Hello, (BMW newbie here but apparently old topic):
The question is in regards to this how to vid and the fix to the spinning tumbler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tETEtb5Yr_o
How DEEP do you drill the hole for the screw? (I noticed the collar in which the imobilizer antenae sits on) does not seat all the way into where the screw would be, and it also spins freely.
So what is the screw tension supposed to stop from spinning: portion of the tumbler inside? Or the collar from spinning?
Thanks in advance.

I am going through the same issue. I ended up taking the dremmel tool to it but I still don't have it out. I cut through the ring on the outside and I think my plan will be to continue with breaking the tumbler up as much as I can.
Edit:
Just got it out. Ended up destroying it to the point I could just use pliers and collapse it in and pull it out. I would do that if you still can't get it out.
stops the tumbler, not the collar. Even after watching the video, I couldn't get mine apart without messing it up to where I can't pull the key out. Luckily it was a spare.
I think it's key to have the right size tool, (small) and it has to be stiff.
Here's a picture of the ignition that will give you an idea on how deep the spring catch is located

^to Junk,
thank you for the feedback. right now, i made an attempt (based on video), and cannot insert the bobby pin. something is blocking the me from inserting the pin.
i have made two successfull drill holes that i can thread tiny machine screw into...so what i will do i is attempt to aquire longer machine screws that will stop the tumbler from spinning 360.
i would be easier to determine the depth of how far to drill once the tumbler is out, but i will now experiment with longer machine screws untill i find the right resistance.

I followed the video on this thread and it worked great with a large sturdy paperclip straightened out and bent slightly at the tip as suggested on the bobby pin.
However, after I removed the tumbler, inside it seems like the part that turns inside from the tumbler doesn't behave properly. If I use a flathead screwdriver and turn the junk inside, it goes partway, then gets all crooked and pushed in.

If I were to replace the larger ignition key housing, do the parts behind the key cylinder come with it?
Thanks for any suggestions...
