Time to shop for a roof rack. Or a clean 530iT...

Not to mention hailing stuff..
OR if you're allowed to hang stuff behind your car you could get one of those Thule HangOn bike carriers. You hang it of the trunk with straps and hooks... You don't even need a hitch..
There's versions for trailer hitch use too.. Even the german version..

I have one of those thule hangon bike things. It use my hitch on my volvo. Realy efficient. I can put up to 4 bikes on it. And can lock them too. It is removable realy easily too. just a pin and a strap.

you still have that problem with a touring.
I always had to lay mine completely down. doable with one passenger and ONE bike...
but not anything more.
you know you have to lower the car more now, right?
"but honey, it will make it easier to put the bikes on the roof rack..."

I get 2 DH bikes and all of our gear in the back of my touring with only removing the front wheels and pedals. I put a moving blanket between the bikes so there is no chafing. I went to a slalom race with my wife, youngest son, 2 bikes and gear for a weekend. My wife is good at creative packing:buttrock
At one point we were discussing acquiring another E34 touring just cause it is so friggin handy. But we're going to hold out until my parents get tired of their E39 tourings. That's right, plural as in 2.

Some but not much on the roof box. Just bought my wife a big cx9 for family hauling. We just buy bigger cars, screw the mpgs.
Prefer the hitch racks, but i've only seen class 1 (ball mount only) for the e34. Like I said, a touring would solve all my life's problems.

Thule has a mount you don't need a hitch to use..

A Touring is just what you need. Goes together like peas in a pod.

Plus I had a bar-b-que in the hatch after the ride.
