And a V10 engines generate a highly distinctive exhaust note that should signal to the neighbours that you're in something unique.

the other two suck.
EDIT: technically you forgot the Mini Vert......
EDIT AGAIN: All these cars suck except for a few... M5, Ferarri 612, Porsche Boxster, Aston Martin DB9, The Maserati and The New Disco....The A6 would be next....And I suppose you could argue for the Ford GT. But it is a Ford so it doesnt make my list

gross. That engine is a monster though, i also like the idea of a v1o 500hp sedan. I would like to see a modestly redesigned e34 m5 with that engine.:buttrock

Makes or breaks BMW? Really, do you think BMW sells that many M5s?
If the new 3-series is a dud THAT will break BMW. BMW sells one 3-series for every other model sold.
If the E60 bombs (M5 regardless) it will hurt. If the 3 bombs, you'll see somebody else in charge of BMW. GM possibly?

as long as a bmw DRIVES like a bmw, they will still sell... regardless
of whether or not you like bangle's designs, the cars are still in their own class as far as performance is concerned... personally,
i like the fact that someone in the automotive industry is taking
risks, i'm sick of waterred down designs that barely change year
to year, like those from audi and jaguar... i think bangle is just ahead
of his time, and with time we'll all grow to like the shapes...
in the end, its all about performance and luxury, and regardless
of looks, no one does it better than bmw...
just my opinion

Top speed is electronically limited to 155mph - without the limiter, over 180mph would be on the cards. This is a seriously fast car?
180mph isn't fast at all for an M5. I know E39 M5s can hit 190mph (at least euro specs do). I thought the new M5 with the 7 speed SMG would reach 200mph or more.

Just some numbers I've been figuring:
E39 M5 (394HP:3957lbs) 10.04 lbs / HP
RS6 (550HP:4057lbs) 9.02 lbs/HP
E55 (469HP:4087lbs) 8.71 lbs/HP
That would mean that the new M5 would have to have a weight to power ratio less than say, 8.5lbs / HP. However, with the lightweight technology used in the E60 M5, I see the car being right around 4000lbs still (even though a larger engine block and transmission are used)...
E50 M5 (500HP:4000lbs) 8 lbs/HP
That's almost 1 lb less per horsepower than the next closest compeditor. If BMW is really pushing the composites to go with some CF in the hood or body pannels you could see a car around 3800-3900lbs and even better ratios.
500HP is going to be more than enough, especially with the 7-speed gear box. (gearing, one of the few replacements for displacement)

Exactly. . . maybe it'll change the face of the M division but nothing more. But even in terms of "Performance" that is still the job of the M3. The M5 is just a super cruiser. The M5 won't make or break BMW, but yes, the new 3 will.
Prince I highly doubt that a Touring Sedan would incorporate CF into it's body work. Now if the M3 does that, I think that would be nice, but remember the M5 is still a family sedan.
It would be interesting to see though.

BMW is not interested in CF for body work; That's a waste of potential. They want to mass produce chassis out of that stuff.
