I read that in the pre 93 cars, LSD and heated seats were part of the winter package. Now I have a 92 with heated seats and my car doesn't seem to have LSD. When traction is lost, it seems as if the car is open diff (all the power is sent to the driver side wheel). Is it a definite fact that all winter packages have LSD?

not that easy in these blizzard-like conditions

You'll have to wait for it to stop snowing to be sure then. Even if it is supposed to have LSD and only one tire is spinning, it may be blown (worn clutches) and acting like an open diff. You'll have to check the tag and see what it says.
Or it may been swapped out sometime in it's life.

I have a 91 525i and have heated seat. My diff was NOT lsd, I have to swap and lsd in. I don't think that having heated seat means you had winter package. If you do one wheel spin, it is diffinatly an open diff, or dead lsd, wich is the same thing at this point.

Easy way to know : jack both rear wheel and hand turn one. If the other one spin the same way, it has lsd. If it spin backward, it's an open diff.

Only cars that have LSD as standard is the M cars ie M3 and M5 etc..

Other than that you have to check. Original owner of the car might pick and choose in the options list so. Under the one of the front seats there's usually a factory inventory list of the options.. You have to google the codes tho.

winter package included heated seats + LSD...

doesn't mean that was the only way to get heated seats.

Just that if you don't have heated seats, you probably don't have LSD.
